File Name: Star Wars (Sonic) VPX

File Submitter: mfuegemann

File Submitted: 07 Apr 2018

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): mfuegemann
Manufacturer: Other - Pinball
Year: 1987
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

This is the VPX recreation of Star Wars by Sonic. Akiles provided the plastics scans, started a playfield and apron redraw. I changed the playfield a bit and worked out the table functions in detail.
The VP8 table by TAB was a good start for this. I added the movable Cyclotron ramp and adjusted some of the light numbers. The table rules are included in the download file and in the table info.
The DIP switch menu is working - press F6 to open it.
At the top of the script You can adjust some additional features as
- Outlane post position
- Free Play
- Sound volume
- GI brightness

The Ramp-Up-Scoop is done by using a collidable primitive. If You change the table settings so that the ball will no longer enter the right ramp, You can activate the TopScoopHelper.
This is a classic solution using kickers to move the ball up onto the ramp.

Some of table objects have been created by Dark and GTXJoe (screws, light bulbs).
Thank You for this.

... from our experience with the table:

we had trouble to shoot the ramp on right top successfully. More flipper power affects the gameplay negatively. But when you switch in line 30 of the script the TopScoopHelper to true then you have a smooth gameplay and can reach the ramp.

Again a big THANK YOU to Michael (and Akiles and kalavera) for sharing this game.

Thanks for the table. I'm having trouble figuring out how to make the plastics light up. I've adjusted the GI lighting in the script to 10. There's light under them but they aren't transparent and lit up like in your screen shot. Thank you.

Hi GordonJames,

the plastics should be transparent even with DimGI set to 0. The value affects mostly the bulbs. You can check the plastics on layer 5, they should have top material "Plastic" assigned.

Within the material manager please check, that the material "Plastic" has the "Active" checkbox ticked in the opacity section. You may adjust the "Amount" value somewhat down to 0,99 (VPX 10.7.2) or maybe lower on newer VPX versions.

Regards

Michael
