Hi everyone,

Trying to build cabinet with FP and Bam, VP, and PinballX as my frontend.  Before tackling doflinx, I'm trying to fix an issue with Future Pinball.

Future Pinball is set to fullscreen and arcade mode.

-When the backglass is turned ON, FPS will drop as low as 12fps and stay in the range of 30fps with massive drops thus making it impossible to play.  I've tried turning off vsync, settings my Nvidia control panel on prefer maximum performance.  Tried affinity on one core.  Turned graphical settings in FP to minimum and the result is always the same.

-When the backglass is turned OFF, I get 60fps with vsync ON and about 160fps with vsync OFF.  Play is smooth.

As a comparison, Visual Pinball X with settings at max runs at 60fps with vsync ON and running with PinballX.

I have an i7 CPU running at 3.2ghz, 12 gigs of ram and a GTX1070 OC graphics card.  Running Windows 10 but FP on compatibility mode for XP Service Pack 3.  I'm stumped.  I've looked on many forums and I haven't found my answer so far.

Any clue why this is happening?

I would really appreciate the help!

I am playing Future Pinball (FP) on Windows 10.  I don't use the "XP Service Pack 3" compatibility mode and I have that option is unchecked.  I doubt that changing it will fix the problem though but I suppose it could.  I wrote a guide on FP at the URL below and you can check Step 3 for the compatibility stuff.  Be sure you have performed step 6 (from your description it looks like you probably have).  Then look at step 12.  There is a link to stuttering there.  A while back, I had to set "Hardware Lights to Use" to 0 when I had a low frame rate but then later I could change it back to 7.  I don't know what happened but I think Nvidia may have sent a firmware update that fixed it.  I highly recommend performing step 17 if you have a 64 bit PC.  I have found it helps stuttering but maybe not to the extent of the problem you are having.  If none of this helps, the last thing you should try is to change each of the items on step 12 one at a time to the lowest setting.  After you try an item, change the setting back to what it was and try the next one.  This is everything I know about your problem.  I wish I could provide a simpler solution but the problem can be caused by a number of different things.

Hope this helps,

Thanks again GeorgeH, it's working fine now with about 90fps and is very stable.  Not sure what fixed it to be honest because when undid the changes that your guide indicated, the fps never went bad again.

So anyways, I set all my nvidia settings like yours and FP's settings like yours as well.

One question though, my BAM xml folder was empty after it installed.  I have since moved xml physics files that I found (2.6 and 2.7) and was under the impression by reading your guide that all the physics files should be there.  Is this normal?

Again, a big thank you for the guides that you made.  I have bookmarked them all and will also be going through your best tables list.

I am glad the problem went away.  I hope it doesn't return.

I downloaded the BAM program in ZIP format and the XML files were there.  Do you recall what version you downloaded?

Anyway you can get the files here:

http://www.mediafire...s_XML_Files.rar

By the way, I still recommend performing step 17 if you have a 64 bit PC.  The ZED EXE file has better memory management and is helpful especially on demanding tables like TerryRed's version of Masters of the Universe which has many video cliips.  The ZED EXE  also has the advantage on not having a splash or watermark.

Strange.  I got an exe install file for BAM version 1.4-196 and it didn't come with them.  Thanks for the link, I downloaded them.

As for step 17, I did replace the original file with the 64bit version.  I followed every step of your guides.  I and others really appreciate the time and effort that you put into that GeorgeH.  Thanks again!

Do you have a recommendation for BAM settings to change the ratio of the table and angle for cabinets?

Sorry I don't have a pincab.  I rotate the display on my desktop PC to a portrait mode and use the Static Cam menu but the angle I use won't help you.

I just remembered I had some of TerryRed's CFG files.  I checked two of them and they both had the angle set exactly at 17.32.

I know Terry checks "Arcade Mode" on the "Video / Rendering Options" on his pincab.  I think he does it to reduce the memory usage.  I don't know what he does when he plays "Dead Hunters".  It has a segmented display on the translite but it appears at the top of the playfield.  Checking "Arcade Mode" will make this display go away and you need it to display the score.  Checking "Arcade Mode" in FP will make the backboard not display above the playfield.  If you have enough memory, I would suggest leaving "Arcade Mode" unchecked and use BAM's "Forced Arcade Mode".  This will make the the backboard display above the playfield and I think you will still be able to set up the backboard on another monitor.  "Dead Hunters" will display correctly if you use "Forced Arcade Mode".  Of course you could move "Dead Hunters" segmented display somewhere else on the backboard and see it there.

I have put together a list of my favorite table on FP that you might want to check:

Thanks, I tried that angle and liked it so I saved it.  I also used your suggestion for the forcing the arcade mode in bam.

I'm actually going through your FP favorite table list and again a big thank you for that as well.

Since you have experience in going through the scripts.  I've been trying to remove or move the DMD and video clip from the playfield of Terminator 2 Ultimate.  Do you know what I should be looking for?

I take it that you want to remove the Heads Up Display (HUD).  The process is the same as it is for most tables.  Just open the translite. Click on one of the objects in the upper left corner.  Then continuously hold your shift key down and click on the other 2 objects in sequence.  One of the objects is the HudDMD, the other is an overlay for movie clips and the final surrounds the 2 objects.  Then right click on them and select the "Lock" option so it is unchecked.  Then drag and drop the 3 objects above the translite.  This will make it so you can't see them.  You don't want to delete them because they are referenced in the script and produce meditation errors if you delete them.  You will need to set up most of your tables this way.

Awesome!  Never would have thought to look on the translite for the playfield DMD.  Did it and worked so another big thank you.  You have helped me progress a great deal in my cabinet.

Next steps will be to buy and setup the buttons with the encoder and DOF which I think will be a pain in the bum.  But DOF will be the last part, in case I give up if it's too complex.

Again, many many thanks GeorgeH!  You have been awesome!

You're welcome.

I know FP but know nothing about DOF.  ...So your are on your own.
