in VPX (10.5b3352), backglass sound stopped working normally. I believe it has something to do with Pinsound Studio, but I'm puzzled.
* sound works normally on VP9, PM5, PBX, FX3 and windows
* secondary sound card (SSF) works well
* changing music output to my secondary card within VPX audio options does not help
* no VPX tables have BG sound working (rom, norom, ultraDMD, none)
* no sounds for any tables in sound mode 0 or 1
* Music audio card set to primary within VPX (was working yesterday)

now the interesting part:
* tables with soundmode2 work well (provided I start pinsound studio before vpx)
* if I change my default sound card in windows to the secondary one, sounds in VPX start working (though, of course, they come out of the SSF speakers)

I have wiped the VPX registry, I have re installed VPX, I have downgraded vpm to 3.0 (although I have no problems with VP9 or PM5). Pinsound studio is portable and there are no config files or registry entries to play with. I also reinstalled both sound drivers (removed sound cards and re added them in windows).
I believe this all started when I tested the new LOTR table, running in soundmode 2 (which still works, btw). It feels like, somehow, a permanent link between pinsound, VPX primary audio, and my primary card has been created.

and I have ran out of ideas...

In other words, my primary sound card only works with soundmode2 tables. Swapping default cards in windows make other sound modes work.
Is there anywhere where soundmode state is kept (registry, ini, temp, etc) where pinsound studio “grabbed” the VPX sound engine?

Yep, should just be able to change SoundMode to zero or whatever in the default settings dialog using setup.exe. That will fix the default for future rom sets that you add.

You will have to check the individual table settings for those that are already installed.

Or you can use regedit if you are inclined. I don’t recall the name of the key. Probably soundmode.

Carny, that deos not address the issue. I have set the defaults and per-table soundmode as needed (0,1,2). What started happening was that, only on VPX (not vp9 or pm5) any table configured in soundmode 0 or 1 (as well as non-rom tables) lost backglass sound. Tables with soundmode 2 kept working. Not a configuration issue, but state “kept” somewhere where pinsound studio somehow “grabbed” all primary sound output (sound effects were unaffected).

Maybe the newer bass.dll solved the issue for you, don't know..
