I can load and play Target Alpha (and others) fine if I just launch from VP10 but if I launch the same table through PinballX, the game freezes on Loading and I can't do anything to force quit or switch applications (i.e. Alt-Tab). Eventually I have to kill the PC power. Any idea what could cause this?

Did it use to work ? If so, what did you change last ? Do you own a pindmd3 or is this just a desktop machine ?

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

It never worked and I never changed anything. I do own a pindmd3 but some of the tables that break pinballx do not have dmd displays (like target alpha).

This is a fresh install of everything. I downloaded several tables this weekend and tested them on their own by launching with VP10 or VP9. They work fine. Then, I added them to PinballX via Game Manager. I can see them. If I select some tables (Stranger Things, Fathom, Medieval Magic), everything works fine, but when I select Target Alpha, I see the word Loading in white but the table never loads and I can't exit or stop the loading. Again, Target Alpha works perfectly if I launch directly from VP10 without PinballX.

Maybe there is a error but you never see it ? Do you run in exclusive fullscreen mode ? If so, try to change that in VP and in PinballX to Windowed. Maybe even table is set with ddraw enabled ? ( if you run fullscreen )

There is no error - if I alt-tab, I can see all of the open windows, but if I try to switch to them, Windows just keeps the Loading screen in the front. Even if I ctl-alt-del, I can get the task manager to open but I can't switch to it to select and kill the process.

I have seen this issue be caused by Windows 10.  If you recently installed a version of VPX, ensure you select the properties of the executable, and make sure the file is "allowed".  By default, Windows 10 will "protect" your computer from certain files.  Check the "unblock" at the bottom of the general tab.

I am running Win 10, but all of my versions of Visual Pin  and PinballX are running in Admin mode and all dll's are unblocked. Again, if I launch the table directly with VPX, no problem. If I launch the table through PinballX, I get stuck at Loading. This doesn't happen with all tables - only a few.

Try launching via the pinballx-mini and the game-manager itself. See if you get the same outcome.

I tried both of those with the same problem. This time I noticed a script error - index was out of range. It must be non-negative. . .

Is the same vpx exe name and path used in pinballx versus you opening the table with vpx manually?

Do you have multiple installs I'd vpinballx?

I have one install of VPX, and pinballx is mapped to my VPX exe. I also have VP9, etc -- all installed through the new all-in-one installer. Another thread mentions something about vbs files causing problems - I don't think I have any of those.

Just make sure that you don't have any *.vbs files in the same folder as you tables. If you do, move them all to scripts and go and get the standalone version and overwrite everything so that the scripts that you may have downgraded gets the upgrade they need.

But, then again. You should get the same error when you run it manually. So, that again points to what gtxjoe is talking about. Hmm ... What version of VPX are you running ? 10.4 right ? If not, make sure that you upgrade to that, and then, do it by the one-in-all installer.

just loaded a few more tables into pinballx - got the same script error but I also got a .net error. I'm running Win 10 with the latest version of .net framework.

Got the .net error in Medieval Madness Tom Tower 3.0b final

Well. I'm on another continent than you so unfortunately it'll have to wait till tomorrow now. I admit, it sounds weird the problems you're having. Both the division by zero and .net messages often come from db2s server though.

I had to think for a while since I just went through the fresh windows 10 install, then all in one installer and latest pinballx last week. I messed with it for a week, then gave up and went back to win7.  I had this problem, but I could hear a windows message box ping but could not see what the error was.  I went into the pinballx setup and in the display option selected windowed when I did this and started pinballx it was now a small display on my playfield, I then selected and loaded the table and could finally see the message box, if I am not mistaken I was having an issue with directx on mine, but this method of windowing your pinballx temporarily will still show your desktop and any message boxes that may be coming on.  Latest Pinballx does not seem to play to well with Win10, if you run real dmd videos on your pindmd3 while in the menu, let me know if you can get that working.  Not 1 problem with fresh Win7 install.

I can't understand anything else than this needs to be pinballx related so maybe the best solution would be to ask over at spesoft for help. Are you able to do what Updon suggests ?

I did post to PinballX forums but no response there yet.

A few minutes ago, I rolled back to an earlier version of Win10 (build 10586) (Windows just let me roll back and then immediately tried to force an update back to the same version -- Microsoft has lost their minds). I am now getting new errors with VP (activex and controller errors).

I think the only real solution will be to erase my hard drive and install Win7 like Updon. Very frustrating that a modern OS causes so many problems.

What can I say. Sorry to hear that but I'm absolutely not touching that M$ spyware crap until VP requires it :)
