Next try a Solid State (SS) table that requires a ROM file

  • Download Medieval Madness, AFM_1.2.0.vpx.ZIP, from here:  http://www.vpforums....&showfile=11603
  • Unzip Medieval Madness and extract the vpx file to C:\Visual Pinball\Tables folder
  • Download the Medieval Madness ROM, afm_113b, from here: http://www.vpforums....s&showfile=1340
  • Copy the afm_113b.zip file to C:\Visual Pinball\VPinMAME\roms folder.  (Do not unzip the rom file, leave it zipped)
  • Run VPinballX.exe
  • Open Medieval Madness and click Play

Guys,

been fiddling around for two weeks now. Now bought a new computer to install VP10 and I can only get the EM-version as suggested to work easily.

The Attack from Mars also works (finally) after a lot of troubleshooting, but now any other ROM-table I install simply does not work. I Always get the same message. 'Machine terminated before initialized. Check the ROM path or ROM file'.

The the script stops. Does this have anything to do wih the fact that I am on 1 screen and have not installed a cabinet yet with arcade buttons etc?

I looked in the script and downloaded the exact needed ROM and put it in the ROMs-folders in VPinMAME.

Please help, because this is frustrating!

thanks,

Nielsdt

You need to keep the ROM file in the compressed folder when you move it into the Visual Pinball/VpinMAME/roms folder. And you must have the correct ROM. Open the script for any table and search for (control-F) "gamename". This will show you the actual ROM name the game is searching for.

untitled7.jpg

Copy and Paste this "name" into VPForums/search/downloads and download you rom.

Double check again to be sure you are using the correct rom. If AFM is working, other tables should work too

As a test, go to Preferences-> Video and turn off Eclusive Fullscreen mode

If that is the problem, search the forum on how to set ddraw to 0. Then you cab turn Fullscreen back on

to check, if the ROM needed, is the one you have (AS A zip FILE!) open the script editor and search for cGameName = whatever

The whatever part is the correct ROM file name

Thank you all for answering quickly!
Indeed, from youtuber Pincade I found out that you can search in the VBscript ‘gamename’ to get the exact romname. I found some of them on this forum, others cannot be found.
So far, I got to work:
Attack from Mars
Roadrunner
TOTAN

Could not get to work, even with exact rom using the method above with the VBscript search:
Addams Family
indiana Jones
sipderman
Terminator

I am sure I have downloaded the right rom and put it in the roms folder in VPinMAME.
Something else strange: when getting the choice to specify I am legally entitled to play the game, I cannot see my mouse cursor, so have to ‘cheat’ by using Tab and arrows, and then enter to say ‘Yes’. This is weird, right? Is that a VB-thing?

What troubleshooting could I do? i installed the latest installer 10.5, and all .NET, directX etc is up-to-date.

Any other tricks I should know of? I will try the ‘turn off fullscreen mode’, and ddraw to 0., whatever it means .
Hope to be able to install many tables without worrying too much soon, so I can spend my time on building the cabinet and adding the IPac, buttons, and second screen. And adding Pinball X, seems like a lot of work to get the details right...

Thank you so much! this should go in the 'troubleshooting section' or whatever. Suddenly the scripts did not 'hang' anymore, and my mouse cursor did not dissappear anymore.

I could get all the tables I downloaded before to work nicely: Addams Family, Terminator 2, Star Wars Trilogy, Indiana Jones, etc. Such nice work!

now I should somehow set ddraw to 0... and then turn on back again 'Forceexclusive Fullscreen mode'...?

Fullscreen Exclusive mode eliminates ball stutter and offers smoother gameplay for many people.  But it has the small side affect of hiding the mouse and windows popups while playing.

Here is a post change ddraw https://www.vpforums...=38683&p=388290

If you set ddraw = 0 for the "default" table registry entry, all future tables you install will have ddraw=0
