I've been out of the visual pinball scene for a while (6 months?), but I recently booted up my cabinet to find that my pinDMD v2 could no longer be recognized by windows 10.  I've run periodic windows updates, so it is possible that a driver update killed it, but since no one else seems to have this complaint, I am thinking that may not be it.

I've tried multiple USB ports, including a powered external USB 2.0 port.  I do get the pinDMD startup image, so the panel is turning on and working, I just can't get windows to talk to it.

I've uploaded some pictures of what my device manager shows:

I tried removing and re-installing the driver, and it did not help.

I'm hoping that Russ or someone else here will know exactly what the magic fix for this is...

Well if he still startups it's probably a software issue. I think I had the same issue. first he didn't recognize the usb and then the drivers were all mashed up.

The pindmd has no driver for Windows 10 but should be regognized. except when it's already recognized as a com port....

What can help is drastic but it worked for me. unplug all usb devices and delete all the usb-hubs from your system preferences. and start the machine with only the dmd in it. that could do the trick.  it's also knows as a code 43 in windows 10. (that does'nt say anything btw, but that the whole issue with windows 10, it doesn't say anything... ;-))

if you look on youtube you can see a whole lot of videos how to solve this problem. https://www.youtube....e 43 windows 10

after watching a couple of videos one option did the trick form me.

after that I had a sort of issue with my dmd and that is covert in this item..

good luck and hope this helps

I have an old one laying around if your ends up being broken.  I bet its the usb port that its plugged into.  Try usb 2.0

Tried all the different options suggested here as well as in the youtube videos, including a new USB cable.  I then dragged a completely different computer over to the cabinet and re-connected the pinDMD v2 to this machine - and immediately got the same errors.

I am interested in trying out a replacement.  Slydog43 (or anyone else in the US who upgraded to v3 and has a v2 to part with)...  let me know how much you would like to sell for.  :)

I have the same issue as you - everytime I upgrade Windows 10 (every 6 months there is a feature release. Last was in March (1703 Creator Update), which was automatically pushed to all Windows 10 computer by now. So your machine might simply has updated itself.

Then this happens, Windows 10 makes in fact a new installation and then a data migration.

As the PinDMD2 driver is not having a signature, it is removed, device seems to be dead. It shows on startup the picture, but Windows does not find it. That's what you describe, so I don't think the device itself is dead.

When the next update arrives in October I know that I get the same problem again. Get's boring, I'm close to trash the device and switch to Pin2DMD, as they are actively updating the driver and firmware.

I know that PinDMD2 can be set back to live, but everytime I need 30 minutes trying around before I'm able to make it work. Require several reboots, looks like voodoo. In fact, it is just needing the right steps with the reboot at the right time, but as I'm not sure about that, it is more trial&error.

PinDMD2 uses "libusb". Google for libusb, Windows 10, signed driver.

You find ways to use replacement drivers - or reboot Windows in a unsecure way (allowing to use unsigned drivers). I did not tried unsigned drivers for security reasons, I always tried to use replacement drivers which worked, even with some hassle.

If you want to try replacement drivers, google for "Zadig". It's free software and it worked for me, but always need a while.

Good luck

Westworld that did it!

Yeah, the latest windows 10 will not accept an unsigned driver at all.  Using the Zadig tool to replace the driver with the alternative libusb worked perfectly!

Notes for anyone else in this situation:

Start Zadig

Select "list all devices"

Choose "USB Serial Device"

Select libusb from the options

Click "Replace driver"

And slydog43, thanks for offering your replacement as well.  Looks like I won't need it!

Just wanted to report that I was having the same problem as paymaster, I also believed that my PinDMD V2 board was dead.  I followed Westworld's and paymaster's advice and it resolved my issues as well.

Thanks Guys!

I know this is old, but i recently run into this. The newer windows 10 update enforces digital driver signing, Disable it following these steps and install pindmd2 driver and everything works fine

Hope it helps someone.
