I didn't even think to ask the question myself, I just assumed these were video's! Very cool that they are now integrated with DOFLinx, here is the detail from the Readme.txt that is part of the file:

DOFLinx and Pinball FX2 Backglasses

This is a quick checklist for installing a directb2s file with PinballX2 using DOFLinx.
For full details please take the time to read the DOFLinx guide.

For support go to the DOFLinx forum at www.vpforums.org

1. Decide where you want the FX2 B2S (directb2s) files to live.  I made mine a sub-directory of my DirectOuput, so I'll refer to that as C:\DirectOutput\DOFLinx_FX2_B2S\  - for you its your choice
2. Unzip your directb2s file to that folder
3. Ensure you have at least V5 of DOFLinx installed
4. Make sure you have the latest FX2 files installed
5. Edit your DOFLinx.INI file, two things to add
  a) PATH_FX2_B2S=C:\DirectOutput\DOFLinx_FX2_B2S\
  b) PATH_B2S_SERVER=C:\VP\Tables\  (Where ever on your system you have B2SServerExe.exe)
6. From within PinballFX2 turn off the cabinet setting for 'Relocate Backglass', you should leave the DMD relocated.  (If you don't do this FX2 will place its image over the B2S backglass)
7. Enjoy

They are the real deal. B2S now works in Pinball FX2 via DOFLinx v5!

They work with the same functions as they do in VP. Fully interactive,etc...

so a classic dB2s works with PB FX2? Since when and is it really interactive?

Yes, I even had to learn how to use the B2S editor!  I am triggering lamps and animations from events in the FX2 game.  The way DOFLInx works with FX2 is to create triggers from certain memory mapped events, ie flasher going off, bumper being hit, etc.  These triggers have been used by DOFLinx to drive DOF based flashers and solenoids and toys.  I have now extended this to allow those triggers to drive B2S lamps and animations.

Anyone can edit the file that maps triggers to events (FX2 file) for any game.  To make a B2S work with DOFLinx you do need the directb2s file and a matching FX2 file.  All FX2 files are currently packages with the DOFLinx download.

If you want to test interactivity for yourself, you will find that I've linked one event per table so far with the nudge function.  Try to find that before you trigger tilt!  (a hint for this one - look at the tower)

This may be a foolish question, but if I want to use DOFLinx only to use db2s files for FX2 can I do that? The DOFLinx guide seems to indicate that other direct output items need to be installed (LEDWIZ, Pinscape...). I currently have no force feedback or led additions in the cabinet (although interested at a later time). If this is covered somewhwere, my apologies.

Not a foolish question at all!

While you can disable all of the outputs and suppress the toys, DOFLinx does require at least one output device (Pinscape, LedWiz, etc) to make its logic function.  You could easily connect a KL25Z setup as a Pinscape device for around $30 and not connect any of its outputs until you are ready.  With that $30 investment DOFLinx could be used for B2S with FX2.

After thinking about it I realized I have a KL25Z that I've been planning on using to replace a Virtuapin plunger for a while now. I have the slide potentiometer and everything. I just need to figure out how to mount everything. I should be able to use the board as for the DOFLinx as well.

Sounding good!  If you're setting up from scratch I'd suggest setting your Pinscape as a Pinscape and not emulating a LEDWiz ...... just a hint.
