I think this is for taking 3d stuff stuck at lower native resolution and re-rendering at a higher native resolution to match higher monitor resolutions--unless this is science fiction becoming reality where fewer pixels on an image/texture are magically made into more pixels for sharper images lol. I'm no 3d expert though.

No, this is actually really for upscaling textures. So "inventing" detail where there is none, based on learned "natural" patterns.

And the other is for synthesizing textures from 2 photographs of a material.

So, my crappy low res playfield images can be magically transformed into nice crisp high res versions?  cool, sign me up.

That tiger pics looks impressive, can't wait to see real life pics from playfields being processed.

Just gave it a spin (its all web-based beta stuff for now) and unfortunately it does not handle jpg compression artifacts well, as these are converted into some kind of weird pattern. But upscaling rather good quality images to an even higher resolution works good.

A site with a similar idea just dropped yesterday

https://letsenhance.io

Haven't played with it too much yet. Seems to have a some trouble with jpg artifacts, so while the lines come up very crisp and smooth, the fills come out noisy.

Actually, a lot of modern AI tools can already achieve similar texture upscaling results. You can just pick any site that offers some free credits and it will work fine for most use cases. For example, EvoLink provides image enhancement and upscaling to 4K that you can try online:https://evolink.ai/

I use Upscayl quite a bit and it is completely free with no trial.  I always use the double upscale option and normally use the balanced option.
