windows 10 just did an update that has changed the windows button on the left hand side to now show shutdown and settings buttons vertically. Since this update the windows taskbar now shows when running a table in VPX. I can't see anything settings wise with the taskbar that has made any difference. Does anyone have the update with the vertical buttons and still have a hidden taskbar or can offer suggestions to make it hidden again. I have never had taskbar issues before the update and the second PC i updated as well has the same issue. On my cabinet i disabled the windows update service to force no updates so the taskbar is still hidden on it and working properly.

I'm Win10 with power and settings vertically.  I couldn't tell you if its always been this way or just happened.  I have updates turned ON.  My task bar does not show over the top.

My taskbar settings are:

Lock = ON

Auto hide = OFF

Use Small = OFF

Use peek preview = OFF

Replace prompt = OFF

Show badges = ON

Location = bottom

Combine = Always

I hope this helps

Thanks for the reply, my settings are the same except for combine i have never. I was playing around with account permissions the other day also maybe that was what did it. I think i will reload windows as its probably due for a clean install anyway.

I did a right click on the taskbar on the second monitor and used the last point (settings). In the following next window the last option slider (more screen users) with the name task bar on all screens, the option = disabled, hides it.

After doing a clean install of windows 10 the problem was gone. I then cloned my hard drive so i can get back to where i was in 5 minutes. Then i figured i would do the updates again and see what happens, After W10 had finished all its updates i loaded up the table i am working on and the taskbar was showing again. So i then downloaded 32assassins new defender table and when i ran that no taskbar showed. I noticed that the defender table had no pinmame display showing and on the table i am doing i had it displaying on the playfield monitor while i am building the table. The long and the short of it is whenever the pinmame display is on the main playfield monitor the taskbar shows, no big issue for me now i know whats causing it as i don't normally run the vpinmame display on the playfield. Might be an issue for desktop users down the track or maybe some setting i change in windows has an impact on my setup. Either way its strange how it didn't happen until the latest windows 10 update.

I'm having this problem too, and I would like to know how to stop it. With my tablet tables, pinmame is aways on the same screen as the tables. Anyone else have an answer on how to solve this. My tablet is running Windows 10 with the Anniversary update. The taskbar keeps going on top of the table.

Have you tried true fullscreen? From what i read the anniversary update has issues with windowed fullscreen.

Edit just re read your post and noticed you mentioned on your tablet, not sure if what i said applys to the tablet version or not as i haven't tried it.

Thank you for replying. As was stated, it appears to be a vpinmame related problem and not a visual pinball issue. Tables that don't use a rom or vpinmame seem to work fine with no taskbar on top. So I don't know if there is a way to compile the vpinmame differently where it is always on top and without the taskbar coming with or what.

My only alternative right now is to have the taskbar hide, but if you're playing on a tablet with the touchscreen controls then the taskbar keeps reappearing as you hit the left flipper (or basically hold that side of the tablet) control on the screen. It would be fine for desktop and people using keyboard or game controller. It just effect the tablet touchscreen controls the most. I hope I can find a better solution.

I believe it was JPSalas that said If you convert your table to use the new VPinmame DMD on the backglass, this will solve the problem because it uses Directx 3D to draw the DMD.

If you let Vpinmame use it's own direct draw instructions this causes windows to display the taskbar on top of the Visual Pinball display.

Best Regards,

Kruge99.

Thanks, Kruge99, for the information. It's not going to help me none though because all my converted tablet tables are in VP 991 or the physmod5 version. No built in DMD in those versions. Still I appreciate the reply.

Damn you Windows 10! Damn it to hell!

Question to the vpinmame developers, can this be fixed in vpinmame or is this just the way it has to be?

Have you tried running and not running as admin for the Vp and/or vpinmame?

Yeah for vp, there is no way to really do vpimame as admin, because its a dll and not a exe.

Resurrecting old thread as I just want to post (possible) solutions to these numerous weird problems happening to random people (I seem to get to enjoy most of them).

I noticed that if you have vpmame dmd forced on top, it makes taskbar appear on backglass so you might want to check if DmdDevice.ini (in VPinMAME folder root) has stayontop = false or true. I was fiddling with PinUp system and tried to change this true and it made taskbar to appear and not go away even with alt+tabbing on backglass.
Even if it's not the DmdDevice config, it might be something else forcing another window on top and eventhough they'd be on separate monitors it might prevent backglass going into a 'full screen mode'.

I recently started having the same problem with Visual Pinball.  All of a sudden when I launch a game, the backglass TV has the taskbar show up at the bottom and I have to essentially click on the backglass screen in order to get it to go away.  Very annoying.  Any solutions for this? Thank you in advance.

@Outhere. Turn what off? Are you saying to turn on taskbar autohide? If so, are there any other options, since it still kind of appears at the bottom of the backglass screen? Thanks

How To Disable Taskbar on a Second Monitor in Windows 10
  • Right click the taskbar, then click Taskbar Settings. You can do this on either screen.
  • Scroll down to the Multiple Displays section. It's close to the bottom of the Taskbar settings, so keep scrolling.
  • Turn “Show taskbar on all displays” off. You should see the change take effect immediately.
