Hello all,

I have managed to get the sound adjusted for the majority of my tables, but am having trouble with Catacomb and Comet.  It's the usual deal where you hear "Table Sounds" (plunger, ball rolling, flippers, etc,) , but nothing else. I have found the instructions for adjusting DMD tables but it seems like on some SS tables like this there may be a special button sequence for adjusting each one. Is there a table by table guide somewhere for this for SS tables? I read where because tables of this era had analog knobs to adjust volume that you just have to live with the level of output with no way of adjusting volume. If that is true I can deal with it, but just need to know how to turn the sounds "on",  Of course if there is a way to adjust the volume that would be helpful too. Thanks in advance for the help.  This forum has been very kind to this noob so far!

Thanks!

You can adjust the volume on the non-DMD SS tables, but it is a little more involved.  I will give you the way a desktop user would do it.  There are threads here that show the way a cabinet user would do it, do a search of the forums for that:

- Click on the PinMAME window (also known as the score window or DMD window)

- Press the tilde (~) key to open a white box - this key is the one to the left of the 1 key on the keyboard

- Using the up and down arrow keys, cycle through the channels until you find one that needs adjusting

- Using the left and right arrow keys, adjust the channel volume - left arrow key lowers the channel volume, right arrow key raises the volume

- Use the previous two steps if there are more channels to adjust

- When done, press the tilde key to close the white box

- Click anywhere on the table to return focus to the table

Hope this helps.

Hey there,

Thank you again. I found an old thread (from you!!) for cabinets, followed the instuctions, to pull up the dmd window , and only found options for "gamma", "Brightness" ,and "overlock".

Am I doing something wrong or are these tables just unadjustable?

Since I don't have a cab, I gathered the information from other users for that post.  I am really unsure on how to adjust the volume via a cabinet using that procedure.

I re-activated the dmd window on the troublesome tables. I definitely got to the mysterious DMD white window of adjustment and was able to cycle through the settings.  .  It just doesn't have adjustment for the volume chips, which makes me think this was an analog knob setting. That said, there is definitely zero sound coming out so I wonder if their is an on/off somewhere in vpinmame?

And thank you again for the help. My forum search showed that you have been helping out on questions like this for a looooooong time.  You obviously do a lot for the hobby. Thank you!!

Let's see....

For Comet - look for DAC #0 and HC55516 #0 when you cycle through the channels.  Then you can use the left and right arrow keys to adjust the volume of those channels.

For Catacomb - look for MC6840 #02, MC6840 #01 and EXT TIM when you cycle through the channels.  Then you can use the left and right arrow keys to adjust the volume of those channels.

It turns out the Catacomb table was an old copy. Downloaded again--problem solved.

Comet, not so lucky. When I use the tilde technique, it only gives me the option for overclock, brightness, and gamma.  It never cycles through to the sound chips. Any other ideas on this one?

Which ROM does the table call for - comet_l4 or comet_l5?  I looked at comet_l5 and it had the two audio channels that I listed in my previous post.  I just looked at comet_l4 and it also has those two channels.

I don't understand what you are looking for then if it is not DAC #0 or HC55516 #0.

It calls for comet l_5.   I am familiar with using the tilde key to pull up the settings and arrows to adjust the values, but on this table when I do this it only gives me options for Overclock, Brightness, and Gamma.....no audio chips show up when cycling through the options.

When you go through the tilde menu on your table do you find the audio chips?

Thanks so much for you help on this. I know its going to turn out to be something silly. I did try a new copy of the table, and I get the same result.

When I use the tilde menu I am able to find the DAC #0 and the HC55516 #0 entries I had mentioned.

Using VP 9.9 and VPM 2.7 btw.  Haven't upgraded to 2.8 or VPX yet.

Just curious -

Are you seeing ALL CHANNELS when you cycle through the menu items in the white box?

Hello everybody I am having trouble with the Comet game from Williams loading. When I load both of the tables, it comes up with a script error in line 222. I have the V2.0.FS.vp910 and the V2.0.Loafer.vp910 tables. They are both VPT tables. This is the only error I am receiving. There is a little screen that appears in the upper left hand of my monitor that shows the scores of the game and I can hear noises from this game as well. I will copy and paste the page of the script file here (line 222 is highlighted in red):

End Sub

Dim GiState

GiState=0

Sub solGI(enabled)

If enabled then

GiState=0

BackMOn.IsDropped=1

For each xx in GIBulbs:xx.State=0:Next'GIBULBS

For each xx in Bumper1On:xx.IsDropped=1:Next'Bumpers

For each xx in Bumper2On:xx.IsDropped=1:Next'Bumpers

For each xx in Bumper3On:xx.IsDropped=1:Next'Bumpers

Bumper1.State=0:Bumper2.State=0:Bumper3.State=0

RightFlipperOff.Visible=1:LeftFlipperOff.Visible=1

RightFlipper.Visible=0:LeftFlipper.Visible=0

SetLamp 100, 0

else

GiState=1

BackMOn.IsDropped=0

For each xx in GIBulbs:xx.State=1:Next'GIBULBS

The error that appears in the box says Object doesn't support this property or method xx.State.

P.S. I have another game on my computer that I like to play as well. I have to adjust the directory paths in order to find the roms for each game.

I'm sorry if bumping old threads is frowned upon, but since this seemed unresolved and I'm having the same issue, I'm hoping someone may have a solution. Thank you for your consideration!

It calls for comet l_5.   I am familiar with using the tilde key to pull up the settings and arrows to adjust the values, but on this table when I do this it only gives me options for Overclock, Brightness, and Gamma.....no audio chips show up when cycling through the options.

Edit - I found the issue. I was using the l_5 rom from IPDB. I switched to the one from this site, and voila, I have sound!
