File Name: Stellar Wars (Williams, 1979) VP9 16x9

File Submitter: DarthMarino

File Submitted: 28 Aug 2016

File Category: VP/VPinMAME 9.x - MOD Tables

Author(s): DarthMarino
Destruk
Kristian
Manufacturer: Williams
Year: 1979
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

This is a complete reskin of the existing Stellar Wars tables (originally by Destruk, then reworked by Kristian) made for high definition displays.  I have redrawn the entire playfield and touched up the best plastics, decals, etc. that I could find.

As of now, I do not plan on making a 4x3 or Full Screen version due to the complexity of the backglass.

Special thanks to JPSalas for helping me with the backglass.

Note on the sound:
The game can be configured to have a "sweep" sound every time the sonar lighting effect repeats.  It is not activated by default.  An nvram file is included with this sound activated.  You can also do so by accessing the adjustment menus with the instructions below. Many other settings can be changed in this menus.  This download includes a copy of the original adjustment manual to assist.

To activate the sweep sound, during game over mode:
1. HOLD 7 and PRESS 8. RELEASE 7.
2. Repeat step 1. The number 35 should appear in the ball in play display (lower left)
3. HOLD 7 and PRESS 1. RELEASE 7.
4. Keep pressing 1 until the number in the player one score (upper left) says 30.
5. Restart the game with F3.

Thanks for the updated table!

Some people (like myself) prefer to set the sweep sound option to 01 instead of 30 though.  The 01 sound is the sound I remember coming from this table when I played it in the arcade.  (It is a personal preference though - each person can set it to what he wants it to be - anywhere between 01 and 31)

You're welcome. I tried a few other numbers but they sounded weird.  30 is the recommended setting from the manual so I went with that as the default but it's easy enough to change it to what you prefer. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people found it irritating regardless of what the sound was. I personally like it though.

I've got an script-error, because I have the scripts in an own folder under tables.

So I replace the line

ExecuteGlobal CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject").OpenTextFile(VBSfile, 1).ReadAll

with this

ExecuteGlobal GetTextFile(VBSfile)

So the script can be found.

I didn't change anything like that from the original table.  If I do an update to this table, I will change that line of code.
