File Name: Sinbad VPX Mod by Kruge99

File Submitter: kruge99

File Submitted: 20 Feb 2016

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME - MOD Tables

Author(s): pinuck
Kruge99
Manufacturer: Gottlieb
Year: 1978
ROM: Link to ROM
Media Pack: Link to Media Pack
Permission to MOD?: No

Based on the table by Gottlieb from 1978

Thanks to everyone who provided assistance with the original VP9.1.2 build and the conversion to VPX.
Credits are in the script.

Full screen users will have to remember to go into the Backdrop settings then untick the DT Mode and Enable EMREELS boxes box and save the table before playing in Fullscreen.

A directB2S is already available for download but I haven't coded the controller script for it yet but I'll try to get that scripted up for version 1.0.0 upon release.

Please post all bug reports and physics adjustments in the release topic, not in the comments section of this download page.  Thank you.

Very nice  but you have to add the B2S Codeline, and invisible DT Scores at FS

I'll work on that later once other more important things like debugging and physics optimization suggestions come in.  This is a release candidate, not a version 1.0.0 yet so there is still a lot of work to be completed.

I've sent a PM to arngrim to offer his assistance with the DOF config as well.

Thank you and please keep providing feedback.

Best Regards,

Kruge99.

The original has always been one of my favourite EMs in VP, and this is a fantastic update. Glad you kept the scratched play field. Thanks Kruge.

I've noticed that sometimes the ball goes a bit through the spinner instead of just pushing it.

But I've also seen this on other VPX tables.. not sure if and how this can be fixed.

Yes it's because I had to use a primitive to get the accurate spinner and use two triggers to activate it.  It's a compromise.

I see the same issue with just the built in spinners as well, so I don't think it's just a primitive issue, more a hit height maybe? I should put it in as a bug to see if something can be fixed on it.

Is this why I am seeing ---in the flipper area--a DMD and the Game Over blocks---that I can't make go away? I also am experiencing the left flippers getting stuck in the up position. Can get them back down with using the flipper again.

Like I said in the release notes on the first page you have to un-tick the Enable EMReels box on the Backdrop settings.

Nice release indeed, though I'm finding that the drop targets don't seem to always register a score or make a sound when hit?

Yeah I discovered that bug too.  It probably has something to do with the script 'hack' I did to get the target shadows to work... /facepalm  I've looked at the code and I'm not sure how to fix it.

Nice work Kruge, I like the worn look of this table. Is the spinner stopping a bit abruptly for you guys?

Yeah, Jimmy is the man, we all owe him a debt of gratitude! I've been playing some more and switching back and forth between your VP9 and VPX versions and have to say as much as I enjoyed playing the VP9 version for years the VPX version makes it instantly obsolete. That's how good VPX is

On a side note I was also messing a bit with the HDR environment and got some really cool results with the environment image "borrowed" from Groni's AFM. I'm no lighting expert but like to tweak tables in my cab to bring out all the detail. Had to increase the emission scale to around 20 and lower the day/night slider quite a bit to get the right effect but I think it made everything just pop. Not sure if that HDR image is authorized to borrow and publish with but you might want to play with it to see the possibilities. Anyway grat job so far Kruge, carry on!

Couple things.. you still have the old VP9 targets - should update to the new target in VPx. Might make things easier for you.

How can you be sure you have the right switch numbers? Hope you have a manual or a good reference.

You have the code doubled up  - might be causing your target grief.  Probably dont want those first 3 lines as you have them covered off in the last 3...just place the reset commands withing the WYRaised, PRaised, and RRaised routines.

SolCallback(6)="dtDropW.SolDropUp"
SolCallBack(7)="dtDropP.SolDropUp"
SolCallback(8)="dtDropR.SolDropUp"

SolCallback(6)="WYRaised"
SolCallBack(7)="PRaised"
SolCallback(8)="RRaised"

The loadVPM code is all replaced now with the controller.vbs scripts -- makes life much easier for all going forward. Should be a simple/cut and replace of your code with the few lines for controller.vbs.

You have references to sounds - but they are not in your sound manager -- these are all sound files..  (dont put one in for SolOff since you likely want silence when its off - or a very quite hum sound)

SSolenoidOn="SolOn",SSolenoidOff="SolOff",SFlipperOn="FlipperUp",SFlipperOff="FlipperDown"
Const SCoin="coin3"

The joys of coding -- keep going -- thanks for your efforts!
