File Name: Gemini (Gottlieb 1978)

File Submitter: BorgDog

File Submitted: 31 Dec 2015

File Category: VPX Recreations

Author(s): BorgDog
Manufacturer: Gottlieb
Year: 1978
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

This started as some very dirty blank playfield images I found online.  I decided to run with that theme and went for a dark, dirty, faded, rusty look for the whole thing with much help from hauntfreaks and sliderpoint on dirtying and cleaning up the graphics (sounds odd, but that's my story).

Hold down left flipper key for options menu.
directb2s included
DOF by arngrim DOF factory
backglass photo by scottamus on Flickr (he has a nice collection of very good shots out there)

FS settings in the table are for my cab which has the playfield in portrait mode, most of you will need to adjust the Backdrop settings.
Here is a starting point for those of you running it the wrong way   :)  I can't vouch for how well it looks.

Due to a couple bugs in the tilt and scorebonus routines I have uploaded a new version, should be available shortly.

Many thanks for this excellent table. The physics seem very nicely tuned to the early beta version I played. I love the darkened, rusty look - very realistic. All the small taps and sounds really add to a great realistic feel it has. Played it for a solid 90 minutes last night and again tonight. One of my favourite VPX EMs.

Cheers

Great!

The physical simulation is close to reality.

This is rare with VPX and this time I'm really excited to play.

Is directb2s mandatory to show the score? (because nothing is displayed on the screen)

Thanks! Db2s is not needed if running in desktop mode. You may need to edit at file called controller.txt in the visual pinball\user folder and change the forcedisableb2s line to a 1.

Hi BorgDog,

thank you for this wounderful recreation. Here my settings and result (screenshot taken in my cab) for FS players:

Attached File  Gemini FS Parameters.jpg   19.75KB   3 downloads   Attached File  K1024_Gemini (Gottlieb 1978).JPG   217.61KB   3 downloads

A few remarks, my first impressions playing the game

- fantastic in sound, physics and optical appearance

- easy to adjust no of balls / replay scores

- "Shoot Again" light on backglass missing

- "100,000" light is not resetted at new game

- game becomes tilted on "game over"- state

- the first Gottlieb emulation I have seen where tilt switchs off playfield light completely - this is correct!!!!

Again thank you, maybe you can consider my findings in your next update.

cheers, Christian.

Thanks for the feedback Christian, I'll definitely add your items to the list of things to do when I get around to doing an update on this one.
