File Name: Iron Balls (Stargame 1987) FS VP9.9

File Submitter: mfuegemann

File Submitted: 07 Oct 2015

File Category: VP 9.x Cabinet Tables (FULL SCREEN)

Author(s): mfuegemann
Manufacturer: Other - Pinball
Year: 1987
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

This is Iron Balls by Stargame, Full Screen edition.

Akiles provided the images and Plastic scans of his own pin. This has been one of the latest additions to pinmame and it was quite fun to find out all the Switch and Lamp numbers.
Gaston was providing valuable help to get me started. The table is behaving a little bit odd compared to other ROMs, so the strnage Hit and Unhit events are there intentionally.

IPDB reports that there are 5 captive balls although on the real pins we found, there were only 3 balls installed. Therefore I added an option to choose between 3 and 5 balls.
The language of the score cards can be changed from Spanish to English in the cofiguration settings.

Remark:
- This game needs pinmame.dll version 2.6 to run (http://www.vpforums....showtopic=27063)
- I created a ironballs.vbs file that is included in the download file, please place this file in Your Scripts folder
- The table rules are included in the table info and as a text file.

Have fun and please use the support topic to post any findings and suggestions.

Michael

Hi,

Excuse me if this is a total noob question but I'm new to visual pinball and I'm not sure if this is easy or not.

With my screen in normal rotation, the table starts up sideways and looks perfect.  But when I'm playing on my cabinet in cocktail mode the screen will be rotated already using the graphic cards built in software.

So, I tried rotating the screen on my laptop (I'm using my laptop for pre-installation testing) and the table was small and ran in a window in the wrong orientation.

Is there a way to make it run with a monitor already in landscape mode or should I be looking at getting a different category of table?

Cocktail mode has a two screen setup where one person sits on each side of the table and has their own controllers is that what you're referring to

Cocktail mode has a two screen setup where one person sits on each side of the table and has their own controllers is that what you're referring to

Yes and no.

The cabinet is designed to be switchable from standard portrait to cocktail mode with a controller at each end (though with only one screen, this is for two player simultainious games through MAME).  However I do realise that this would be one player and I'm not expecting the able to have two versions back to back or anything so I'm not asking for that.

What I mean is that when the controls are on either end in cocktail mode, (which is the best way to play pinball games) the resolution of the monitor is already switched.  So instead of 1920x1080 in landscape its running in 1080x1920 portrait.

This means I want the table to do everything it's doing now but without flipping itsself 90 degrees because the monitor is already flipped.  At the moment it tries to flip 90 degrees to sit sideways on the screen bout as the monitor res is already flipped it messes up the size and puts it in a window.

Nope, that's designed for widescreen landscape so it puts it in a window still.  Though at least it's the right way up.

Update:  Ok, with a bit of Googling I worked out that you need to go into the editor, click backdrop, click options, then mess with the rotation, offset and scale settings.  Then make sure that the video prefs are set to full screen windowed.

Took a bit of trial and error to get the right settings which seemed to have no relation to the original ones (I imagine a math bod could work it out without multiple tests) but it now works perfectly. :)

Hi DisFanJen,

I am away from my home PC right now, so I was not able to answer in time. I am glad that You found the right (and only) solution at the moment. Please be careful with the Zoffset value. Primitives are not scaled accordingly.

Regards

Michael

mfuegemann, no problem.  I don't expect people to jump on it the milisecond I ask a question. :)

In the end I did it by eye so took a picture of the table on the screen before editing working correctly.  re-oriented the screen then made it match.  As far as I can tell it it all working as it should with the added bonus that the scoreboard is now in the top left corner of the table. :)

Hello Michael,

how can I adjust the table to play 5 balls per game?

Thank you, Christian.

Hi Christian,

if there is a way with the real machine to set it to 5 balls, it is not possible using a DIP switch menu or one of the spare switches, that are ROM controlled. Sorry.

Michael

I had tried going into the ROM menu - both with PinMAME32 and VPinMAME through VP9.9.

It looks like you can press 7 to attempt to get into the adjustment menu but it immediately went back to attract mode.  I am guessing that this functionality is not working in PinMAME as of yet.
