I just installed VP 10 (per the instructions)

All previous versions including Physmod 5 were already installed and running perfectly, so I figured that adding 10 would be a piece of cake.

When I try to load a vpx table (I've tried Rolling Stones, Avatar and POTC so far) they all fail to load with a dialog box that says "Visual Pinball can not load a file of that version".

If I switch the file filter to look for older (vpt) tables, it shows and loads them(but obviously can't run them)

It coughs on the only files it was made to load!

I'm running Win 7 Ultimate 64. Yes, I unblocked the dll files and set compatability to run as administrator.

I'm stumped.

It sounds like you are not running VP10 exe file -  vpinballx.exe.   If you open visual pinball and click on Help-> About does it say Version 10.0

Are you running directly from Visual Pinball or from Hyperpin or PinballX?  Hyperpin does not officially support VPX files, i think the work-around is the rename the .vpx file to .vpt

Does he have to run vpinmame setup.exe again?

I'm definately running vpx, the latest build. I ran vpinmame setup. The tables I tried were The Rolling Stones, Avatar and POTC.
I re download vpx and reinstalled. I re downloaded the tables too. Same result.

Can I ask why you're asking for help on this website, and not the website you downloaded those files from? Seems a little counter intuitive, don't you think?

Fair enough. The version of VP10 is rev 2162 from this site. Bugs Bunny Birthday Bash produces the same load failure.

Here's something interesting:

I had unzipped the VP10 files into a folder on my desktop before moving everything into the existing VP folders from my other versions.

In desperation I ran VP10 from the desktop folder and it ran fine! It loads vpx files without a problem!

Why would the physical location of the file matter?

VP9.x and Physmod 5 versions run fine from C:\program Files (x86)\Visual Pinball but not vpinballx.exe

after you move them they become blocked again, at least they did on my computer. Before you unzip them go to properties and unblock the zip file itself then you should be able to unzip and move them without them being blocked again.

Thanks for that suggestion!

Unblocking the zip file prior to unzipping and moving did the trick!

I've never seen that happen before.

Thanks for solving that one!

Very cool, it is always the stupid little things that seem to cause the most problems. Glad we could get you going .... Enjoy
