Hey you electronical masters in this forum

 

I just finished the building of my cabinet and enjoyed playing the enormous amount of pinball tables.

But now comes the next step of reality: Force Feedback.

I orderd 8 simens contactors. These are Simens Sirius 3RT1015 24V contactors, which are relativeliy cheap here in Germany ( I bought them on ebay for 7,50€/piece).

Additional I bought a 24V switching power supply, 0.5A fuses and diodes for the contactors. So far so good, now that I have all these parts, I'm a bit scared to connect all these to my LEDWIZ.

Could someone give me some hints how I have to connect these and íf I have to buy additional hardware to secure my valuable LEDWIZ.

 

I already read document "Pinball Electrical 101" but it's not totally clear to me ( do I really need an additional relais to connect my contactor ?)

I didn't trust connecting those contactors and other high voltage devices to my LEDWiz's either. So what I did was got some Zeb booster boards (http://www.zebsboard...-booster-detail) and put them between the Wiz's and the hardware in question. So far so good!

If you are putting .5 amp fuses then that should protect ledwiz. If these contractors draw more than that then you need a booster board like zeb or a relay board like this. http://m.ebay.com/it...3446?nav=SEARCH

Note this relay board connects to the ledwiz. There are also sainsmart relay boards with USB and these can also be controlled by DOF without connecting to ledwiz.

Just ordered such a Relais module board in eBay for 12€

I'm operating 8 of those connectors directly connected to LEDWiz without any issues. I used 1N4007 diodes but no fuses. No additionally hardware required.

This image may help.  This is a mockup board that I built that works perfectly for me.  The LedWiz is connected to 300mA fuses that run to a relay.  The relay activates and sends 24V to the contactors.  So the LedWiz is protected essentially twice, fuse and relay.

I Used 10 Siemens Contactors 24V 8 on LEDWiz and 2 (Flippers) on an other controler (PinControl

In addition i used 500mA fuses on every LEDWiz slot and 4004 diodes on every contactor

 

unfortunately i got a short circuit after some weeks. I think one of the diodes could have loosen because there where up to three cableendings in one terminal and since those contactors have some moving parts something slipped out?

 

long story short: I will solder the diodes to the 24V wires next time and perhaps you should do the same

That's how mine are setup also (minus the fuse), The LEDWIZ activates a 5V DPDT relay that can switch up to 2A. The relays activate the 24V contactors. I was able to find some decent quality and affordable relays on Amazon. This particular method saved me some money

this mockup board is a piece of art and shouldn't be hidden in a pinball cabinet.

 

I had finally ordered a cheap relay board ( 8 relays) and with this I had no hazzle to drive my siemens contactors.

Thanks mkl66.  It is temporary, so it will be taken apart once the cab is built.  However, my friends all tell me to leave it alone and buy separate parts.

 

Edit:  And glad to hear you got your contactors up and working!

Question: Why should the relay ("...The LEDWIZ activates a 5V DPDT relay...) be the 5v kind and not the 24v? Is the 5v mentioned in the relay specifications related to the control (LedWiz) and not the output (Contactors)?
