File Name: Catacomb FS (VP9.9)

File Submitter: mfuegemann

File Submitted: 15 Sep 2014

File Category: VP 9.x Cabinet Tables (FULL SCREEN)

Author(s): mfuegemann
Manufacturer: Stern
Year: 1981
ROM: Link to ROM
Media Pack: Link to Media Pack
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

This is Catacomb by Stern, Full Screen.

Resources have been thin and so I had to start with a playfield redraw. As with D&D the manual was not showing the correct solenoid numbers.
I want to thank the authors of the VP8 table Destruk, Lander and Skalar for the correct lights mapping and solenoid number corrections.
A great help too is the DIP switch code provided by Inkochnito. You can access it via the standard F6 key.

The Backbox Bagatelle game will be shown above the main playfield when it is due. I will look into B2S functionality later on.

I included a backglass image, a playfield picture and the xml section needed for Hyperpin. The Media-Pack link is pointing toward a wheel image already availiable.

A desktop version will be done after the FS release (as usual).

Have fun and please use the support topic to post any findings and suggestions.

Hi,

just a short notice. I added Ball rolling sounds to the table and revised the physics settings to slow down the ball a bit.

Regards

Michael

We need a dB2S guru to get this working on the back glass!

Hm... I wonder how would this be doable via dB2S. It looks like such thing would only be possible if VP could handle a second screen. Otherwise simulating ball movement with dB2S seems to be difficult.

Yes, I know Herweh did something like this with the NBA Fastbreak backglass but I didn't yet look into the details exactly how. It doesn't seem like that would be a ball moving the same way like on the playfield, and with Catacomb (or Banzai Run for that matter) that's exactly what would be needed.

Only a hand full of tables would really need such function.....but it would be worth implementing imo even just for the few tables.

Hi,

the two B2S backglasses with Bagatelle games, I know, consist of a set of predefined movies, that are played. This would be possible but is not good enough, in my opinion.

I do have an idea but it will be rather time consuming. Maybe I will tackle this after Krull is released.

Regards

Michael

I think as htamas said VP would need to support secondary display playfield, it would be cool if the 'overlay' playfield effect could even just happen on secondary monitor.

Yes, that would be indeed the way to do it. If it was somehow possible for VP to send the overlay to the second screen, that could be a perfect solution.

We would still need a vertical backglass monitor for Banzai Run though :D

Really good work on this table and Magic that you just released.  They look great and play pretty well.  However, I cant help but think they'd really shine with some impact sounds on the plastics and sounds on the spinners.  That alone would make the tables a bit more alive.  Regardless, thanks for the tables!
