Morning Everyone,  Does anyone have a quick guide in how to set TPA (The Pinball Arcade) up in a cabinet? I don't know if I am doing anything wrong but in Pinball FX2 you just change screen rotation in settings and tweak the DMD config file to display the DMD on the 2nd monitor and away you go. However there seems to be no such settings in TPA - certainly in the version I possess anyway. If I rotate the screen via window settings before launching TPA it simply doesn't start.... Any suggestions?   Cheers

Running in Steam? There is a separate config executable in the TPA directory. First rotate the playfield to portrait orientation. Then run the config executable. There you define your resolution (e.g., 1080 x 1920 in portrait mode). Assuming you usually run VP then you usually have the playfield in landscape. You will have to rotate to portrait each time you want to play TPA. Easy enough to set up a bat file or ahk script to do that.

Thanks for your response, I've managed to get it working now. Cheers! PS. However, do you know where I can get a bat file or ahk script from that would automatically rotate the screen when TPA is opened? Regards

You are welcome to use my script. I have it set up to go directly to one table, Black Hole, but it can be edited to just get you to the main menu. I don't have much else going on with TPA at the moment as it is just not ready for cabinet play. I just have it in as a placeholder for the day, whenever that day comes, that there is better cabinet support.

You will need to find the freeware display.exe that allows you to rotate the screen.

Did FarSight finally released an update that adds cabinet mode?

Nope, was put on the back burner due to other priorities (Ps4, then Xbox 1/360, then dx11 for PC, etc, etc.)

Bummer. Did they publish an estimate?

Nope, they learned better after the xbox 360 to do that (which was not their fault)

My guess is that you will see a VP10 final version before you see a good cabinet support in TPA :D

The devs over at tpa sounded like they had the most work done and I wanted to believe it this time. I guess a q1 2015 feels realistic.

Will it work like a real pinball or you need to use the menu to pick number of players? and will they map coin door buttons direct?

I'm hoping after they make their money back they release a GOG version later. I would buy this if it wasn't slaved to Steam. I don't need the extra overhead on my cab, plus steam and its updates and splash screens just isn't cab friendly.

It's not about making their money back. They have stated the licensing contracts signed with the companies like Williams, stern, Gottlieb. Etc requires they release TPA only on environments that use some form of DRM. The decision was out of their hands.

It's always about making money back. I understand they have agreements, but it's ALWAYS about making money back. That's the only reason for DRM. I'm not slamming them or anything, but let's not pretend it's not about the money. There are other methods of DRM out there that don't require Steam.

Yes, but the request was to release on GOG. I believe they said that wasn't an option and it wasn't a choice they had. Obviously, everyone realizes they are a for profit company as are the license owners, but although the decision was based on making money, money is irrelevant, they could have had 20 million sales out of it and it won't help them get it on GOG, contracts are signed.

... I guess I had not explained it well

I am in the little faith in TPA camp now. Did anyone catch the twitch feed tonight for POTO? Apparently, Bobby King indicated there was legal issues with cab support?  :throw:

I suspect that you could take the rest of this year off from VP10 work and this would still be true.....please don't do that though.....lol

Morbo is quiet upset with this development!
