VP 9.9.0 Windows 8 DirectX Installation

Best Answer kruge99 , 30 July 2014 - 06:43 PM

Nope, you will need to install DX9 for VP9 to work.

I think this is the proper link:

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 17 laptop, i5 processor, 6 GB RAM, running Win 8. Desktop tables work great on my 24" monitor!

I followed the Installation Guide. VP8 runs my older tables ok. I had to manually install VP 9.15 for now  to use my VP9 tables.

The Installation Guide says that VP 9.9.0 is the latest version of VP, and that appears to have installed correctly. But it won't launch; problem with a DX9 file missing from my computer:

"The program can't start because 'd3dx9_35.dll' is missing from your computer."

My laptop has DirectX v11 installed ... I take it that it's not backward compatible with DX9?

What do I have to do to get the right DX9 files for VP 9.9.0? Do I have to uninstall DX11 and replace it with DX9? Or can DX9 work for VP while DX11 works with everything else Win8?

Thanks for your help! Have a nice day!  :band:

Thanks, Kruge & Outthere, for the info.

Hmmm ... I don't think I want to do that with my Win 8 machine, at least not at this time. It's my main work machine, including video editing. I was mostly curious to see how VP ran on Win 8 ... and it runs most VP tables very nicely with VP 9.15.

I'm gonna bring back my old XP desktop and use that as my main FS B2S rig. Gonna add some RAM and a vid card. Hope VP9.9 works well on XP.

Cheers.  :drinks:

Hi, Pintrepid; (Oops! You beat me to the button. Oh, well, anyway.....)

Since my XP machine was inoculated from Day One with DX9.0c, all I was missing was the two DLLs, 35 and 43, which I found and downloaded as their importance was brought to light during VP9_DX9 testing. Dealing with W8's total disdain for DX9, however, is a different animal.....

In October 2007, Microsoft released 'DirectX 9.0c End-User Runtime' version 9.0c (I know...redundant.....); 309KB and filename dxwebsetup.exe . It will "update your current version of DirectX---" and is the object of kruge99's link in post #2.

Forty-two months later, they released TWO DirectX updates(?):

1) 'DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer' version 9.29.1974, 286KB and---the SAME filename dxwebsetup.exe , which "provides updates to 9.0c and previous versions of DirectX---" (the difference is clear as mud, right?)

2) 'DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010)' version 9.29.1974 (sound familiar?), which "provides the DirectX end-user multi-languaged redistributable that developers can include with their product.File Namedirectx_Jun2010_redist.exe .

And at 95.6 MEGAbytes, it would seem that this is the one for computers or systems that are without DirectX9. Lots of languages, too!

Have fun;  :bar2:

We have a new PC at my work with Win 8.1 and I installed DX9 and the new VP on it and they work great. It's doesn't even have a dedicated graphics card, just integrated graphics.

How did you manage to install DirectX 9.0c with win8?

Setup says, it is intended for win98/me/xp/2000 only.

Thanks.
