File Name: Lord of the Rings VP916 Night MOD

File Submitter: teppotee

File Submitted: 18 Oct 2013

File Category: VP 9.x MOD Cabinet Tables (FULL SCREEN)

Author(s): JPsalas
teppotee (MOD)
Manufacturer: Stern
Year: 2003
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

This MOD is based on JP's version of Stern's Lord Of the Rings table. Thanks to JP for the original version and allowing me to release this MOD!

What's new:
- New GI with user selectable alpha colors for bottom, middle and top (details below)
- Flasher effects
- BMPR physics and flipper tap code
- New texture for the sword ramp
- New GI for most of the toys
- Few toys replaced with better images and few removed as well (I just couldn't make them look "right" with this table)
- Halos for many led lights for better visibility
- Resized and repositioned many toys (for example ballrog is bigger now!)
+ a lot of other stuff

To change the color of the alpha lighting -> open script at line 54 and check this section:
' 1= orange,2=green, 3 = blue 4 = white
bottomColor = 1
middleColor = 1
topColor = 3

Thanks to jimmyfingers for his BMPR and flipper tap code scripts!

Please use VP916 for the best visual / performace results.

Check JP's original release for instructions how to use sampled sounds instead of rom sounds if needed.

Amazing, I thought it was almost Halloween, and in fact it was really Christmas!  Even without a tree up, Santa came anyway.

Can't wait to get all these new tables to the cab and try them out. Looks like I'll be sleeping in tomorrow!

Thanks a million teppotee and all who helped!

Sorry about the missing sound. I forgot the sound option to "0" while testing. Just uploaded a new version where it's enabled by default.

Lovely job Teppotee!!  :good:

I thought the GI wasn't controlled by the ROM in this table so I don't know how you implemented it, looks great though!!

Do you think it is possible to implement GI on the path of the dead playfield? Something like a green mist would look stunning...

Cheers for the upload :drinks:

Correct thewool. There is no rom controlled GI for Stern tables (at least this generation). So I added simple scripted GI action just to have a bit contrast on the PF with / without lights. Makes the lighting look better when it goes off too :)

Please rename the title of the post with nightmod, I almost replaced my other version with this one.

The same goes for Red and Ted's Roadshow.

Thanks.

I tried renaming those already but can't do that (changing the filename after the upload doesn't change the title). I guess I need to PM Noah to do it.

Sound emulation for these Stern tables is not perfect. So the sound cracks when using rom sounds directly.

JP built an option to use samples instead:

Open script and go to line 82 and set sound off:

.Games(cGameName).Settings.Value("sound") = 0

And then uncomment (remove ' from the begining) row 52:

'Set MotorCallback = GetRef("TrackSounds")

Thanks, I had to do this.  Do some peoples systems not crackle?  Why isn't that change the default setting?  Just curious.  I was about to skip this table until I saw your fix.

Thx for the update.

Yep. My sound crackles too. I hope this fix works on some of the other tables too. Thanks teppotee for the advice/tip. Great work on these tables too and to the others involved!

The sample sounds are NOT defaulted because I can't use them :)

I have separate sound system inside cab for mechanical sounds and "normal" sounds for the back box. The sample sounds play from the same sound card as VP's mechanical sounds -> which means that those would play inside the cab(not good!). So I always use the rom sounds even if the sound cracks occasionally. The other reason is that the sampled sounds are not working 100% accurate and you may get overlapping sounds etc. (although the sound quality is way better).

Should have mentioned this option in the release notes though...
