Hi

Sometimes when I hit play, a table draws very, very slowly and the mouse cursor jerks around the screen updating about once per second. The direct2bs backglass appears eventually but the DMD never appears (I have a 3 monitor cabinet). Other times, starting exactly the same game starts up fine and plays fine. I only have 3 games installed as I'm just getting set up. Junk Yard is the worst, I might have to start it 4 or 5 times to get it to work. AFM does it maybe 1 time in 3 and I don't think MM has ever done it. It doesn't seem to make any difference whether I am starting from PinballX or from within VP.

I can never understand why the same computer doing the same thing can have different results! Any ideas?

i think.

click right mouse button on dmd screen.

Select path..

DMD Display must set on display 3.

press ok.

now right click in dmd

Select show window border and change dmd size (there are a few sizes you try witch one fit in your dmd screen) keep dragging til display is going bigger.

Tip: drag dmd to play field re size there and drag it back to 3e screen.

press ok.

Now i think there is no slow tables anymore!!.

And you can play vp and Fp with hyperpin with NO problems.

I had this to, and now its 1000000% good.

( so dmd must set on display 3 in Path.. menu)

Thanks for the suggestion marco but I tried the path setting and I just got a black square where the ROM should be displaying.

Some tables that do sometimes do this: Attack from Mars, Junk Yard, Indianapolis 500

Some tables that never do this: Medieval Madness, Monster Bash, Indiana Jones

Any ideas, anyone? Am I the only one to ever experience this?

Did you try playing without B2S? Do you use any frontend?

Thanks, Rincewind. It makes no difference if I play without B2S and it doesn't matter whether I launch from my frontend (PinballX) or direct from VP.

I think its the dmd.

Drag the dmd into the playfield and start the table with the dmd in playfield.

Just to try,if the stutter is gone.

Thanks, I'll give that a go tomorrow. I too think it's something to do with the DMD as the DMD never starts.

I have the answer. It's a problem with the rom.

check the registry for the ddraw settings .. it will default to 1 .. but when changed to 0 everything will work fine again .. well atleast for me it did, give it a try and let me know.

ok after REGEDIT
got to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
-> Software
-> Freeware
->Visual PinMame

under the visual pinmame you will see all your installed romsets
go to the romset used -- look on the right side for ddraw and then double click and change the setting from 0 to 1

You can enable-disable ddraw also via script, putting this code in "Table_Init."
The code can change a little, depending on the type of script.

.Games(cGamesName).Settings.Value("ddraw") = 0

Obviously, 0 means ddraw disabled and 1 enabled.

So should all tables be set to ddraw 1 ? I don't have any problems but everything to help vp run better I like.. I will put it in all my table scripts.

I only set the tables that I have problems with to ddraw=0. All others that work perfectly I just keep at 1.

But if they ever mess up like that video a couple posts up, I immediately change it to 0. Aint nobody got time for that!

I set them all, I'm not sure if that was a good idea but it doesn't seem to have slowed it down or anything.

I didn't have any problems with the DMD size but I think it has made some games run slower after all so I have set the games that don't give me any problems back to 1.

I switched from Windows 7 to Windows XP for better performance, but then I started having this "super slowdown" issue as described on this thread.   And yep, Junkyard reproduced it readily.

I changed ddraw=0 and direct3d=1 as the default for pinmame.   This lets me stretch but it seems to work without the hangups.  The resulting display isn't quite as sharp but it's more uniform looking than the stretched ddraw mode.

VP is so fickle, LOL.
