The recent rebuild of a VP cab pc has presented me with a lot of new questions on its operation.  Lot's of settings lost, etc.  I know these things have to be stored in a file somewhere on the original and I would love to understand more about how VP and the individual table builds handles this information.  So, here we go.

When I set the size and location of a DMD, where is that information stored?

When I set a high score on a table, where is that information stored?

When I make an adjustment on an individual table, such as number of balls or volume adjustment using the settings displayed in the DMD, where is that stored?

When I make a preferences adjustment in VP (video options, key assignments, etc.), where is that stored?

When I adjust the slope of a table, (min and max settings in the physics options), where is that stored?

When I make changes to a table's script, where is that stored?

When I make adjustments to a directB2S back glass, where is that information stored?

Now you may find some of these as silly, and I certainly have some ASSUMPTIONS about where some of this information is stored... But you know what they say about assuming anything.

Depending on if you are having issues or not, the general rule of thumb is this:

If you are copying over folders and you don't get the same results, then that info is probably stored in the registry. This more than likely applies to anything related to the DMD, as PinMAME relies heavily on registry settings, however some bits of that info is probably stored somewhere in the PinMAME folder as well, but mostly it's all registry settings.

Granted some of your questions aren't that answer and I'll just answer the ones I know for sure:

When I make changes to a table's script, where is that stored?  ,<-- stored in the .vpt file

When I adjust the slope of a table, (min and max settings in the physics options), where is that stored? <--- .vpt file

When I make a preferences adjustment in VP (video options, key assignments, etc.), where is that stored? <--- (cfg or ini file for VP)

When I set a high score on a table, where is that information stored?  <---   /visualpinballfolder/pinmame/nvram/nvramfilefortable

Another annoying thing authors do (I'm not sure if this applies to VP) but they put all these extra unneeded folders in C:/users/appdata/blah/blah that contain info that is needed. I'm not sure why they still do this as common sense says the way people use their data it should all be contained in the primary folder where it's installed.

When I set a high score on a table, where is that information stored?

If the table is a solid state table, high score data is stored in that table's nvram.  If you want to save your high scores when moving from one system to another, you should copy the nvram folder over.

If the table is an EM or original table, high score data is stored in the user folder either under tablename.txt or in a file called VPReg.stg.  Again if you want to save your score when moving over to another system you should copy this folder over as well.
