Hi all, I am new here, and new to pinball repair, collecting. My hobbies are antique radio restoration and tube quitar amp building. But I am acquiring an interest in Pinball machines.
My problem is this: I have a Bally fireball Classic that will not start. Previous owner had all boards professionally rebuilt (I know this for a fact as I have the receipts). When he got them back he just plugged them in and attempted to start the machine. Well a couple of stuck solenoids, swtiches, etc. promptly burned out a couple of transistors on the solenoid driver board. I have repaired all that. Missing digits on display boards I have repaired.
So here is where I am stuck: diagnostics check out fine; 1 flash from the LED on the MPU, then 7 blinks, all is well. All solenoids fire, no stuck switches, etc.
Game fires up, then goes to attract mode.
Dropping a coin in slot 1 causes "ball in play" to display 3 on player 2, and 10 credits
Dropping a coin in slot 3 (no slot 2) causes "ball in play" to display 3 on player 4, and 10 credits.
Another coin in either slot advances that players credits to 20, another coin,30, and so on.
It seems players 1 and 3 are "lost" somewhere?
After dropping coins, pressing the credit button does nothing, game will not start. Even though credits are displayed.
I know the credit button is ok because I can use it to change things in bookkeeping.
The outhole switch is totally missing from this game but I don't know if this could be a cause? I am looking for one but no luck so far. Any ideas on a replacement switch?
I have gone into bookkeeping and tried putting 5 service credits on the machine to see if I can get it to at least play that way but am not sure what to do after putting these credits on. They get lost once I get out of bookkeeping.
Could it be that the game has not been on long enough to fully charge the new "super cap" that replaces the old battery?
Any ideas as to where I should start looking? I am running out of them!
