First an awesome thanks to you developers that keep making VP better.
Doing a quick search on FreeImage and Animated GIF support, I found that FreeImage has this support since version 3.7.0 release (talks about a new GIF plugin). Would it be possible to turn this feature on in VP? Sure would be nice to be able to use Animated GIFs in the tables, especially if we could load and display them through script as run once or looping. Display them on a wall or ramp and the animation can be used for lights, toys, dmd, or whatever. One image file with frames, what could be better?

That's it? That's all we got? Only three people in the whole community would like animate gif support for VP? Sad indeed.
EDIT: Opps, sorry didn't see the other three likes in my post, but still there should be others.

that would be the bees knees!
The cats pajamas? something akin to that anyhow
of course it would depend on how many frames of animation you have too I would think
there would have to be a limit to the size of the gif file but that sounds like a cool idea
hows about it Dev team is it possible?

C'mon VP'ers! Hit that like button and hopefully some tech-savvy coder will add this wonderful feature to the source code!!!

that cute saying that is animated under my post is a gif. It is a long one (and made for me by a fellow pinner!)I don't even know what it is (examples, anyone?) but knowledgeable people are proponents, so it must be good.
okay I hope this link goes through but here is a gif which is really a short animated cartoon of sorts.
Themes for your desktop usually have them they would be the hourglass or something similar.
so here's one of a dragon for reference

Damn! when I clicked on it it didn't look that long but if I upload it it can't be animated so look at this for the answer to your question

Thanks, faralos; cute dragon!
I sort of remembered those sig animations being called GIF (JIF?), but couldn't see why people were wishing for the feature when so many tables have DMDs already. The dragon illustrates that GIFs can be other than DMDs; now I'll wait for their objectives / potential uses to sink in.

Great, so there are a lot of people that would like this feature. Is there any of the developers interested in looking into this?
P1, I tried a apng file in VP just for kicks, and it uploaded ok, but sadly there was no animation when I played the table.
But animated apng or animated gif would be most welcome and appreciated from all the authors. Escpecially if we could use a loop, run once, or frame jump/start/stop function through script. Sure would make animated objects a walk in the park.

It would make it 'reel' easy to do animations then as the .gif images could be used as a sort of pseudo reel on walls or ramps on the actual table in a single image file, instead of having to use reels on the backdrop screen.

Png flashers with alpha transparency and animation? In one graphic file? Think of the possibilities!

well yes there are many pins that use DMD's
but most of them are using them in conjunction with a Rom
I want the ability to use it in an original using a gif
