Donkey Kong Country - Kongo Jungle

Version: 1.0.0
Category: VP 9.x Originals

Author(s): Zyborg, Graphics and sound effects from Nintendo

Description:
The first in an upcoming series of Donkey Kong Country-themed Pinball games.
A pinball game themed after Kongo Jungle of the widely acclaimed series, Donkey Kong Country. Hit banana-themed bumpers, lights, and spinners, knock down Kremlings, and score K-O-N-G for a fast-paced bonus! Still missing some sound effects or a high-score board, and needs something to connect it more to Kongo Jungle, but is pretty much done.

Kewl beans! we definitely need more video game inspired pins!
I am currently up to my ears in making both a FF7 pin and a Metroid one
so what's next, Diddy Kong?

Actually, once I figure ramps out, I'm making Monkey Mines next. Anyways, the reason there are two balls is partially because they represent Donkey and Diddy. Also, I just wanted to see if I could tongue.gif

How about a Defender based original pin. Not the VP9 version.

Defender....
As in, that side-scrolling space shooter arcade game where you fly over the surface of some planetary object while shooting and bombing stuff?

man I have been kicking around a metroid based pin for over a year now
I have tons of music and was thinking more likely a combo of the two first metroids
as I love the music in number one but the enemies and gameplay in number two was better
so I was thinking you start out in Kraids hideout collecting some bombs and energy containers
then go to ridleys area for some of the same killing baddies along the way
then you get to fight the motherbrain if you get that far
all the while collecting energy packs and bombs and those cool power ups!
so yeah at least four different tables (dropping walls in collections rule!)
for the three different enemies then the mother lair too
so four different layouts in all
I finally have enough music and sound effects now to actually start a pen/paper layout
so yeah for sure
ANYONE WHO WANTS TO HELP MAKE A METROID PIN STEP RIGHT ON UP!!

nice graphics but the table layout is too simple for me!
Anyways I won't be officially starting it for at least a week
(gotta rough it out on paper first) esp since it's gonna have numerous events
and a different table layout per area (norfair, mothership, ridleys lair, etc)

Whoa! Dropping lots of walls at one time to create a completely new table layout?
That sounds verrrry interesting smile.gif

[genuine sentiment but also trying to stop a table release hijacking]

Congratulations for your eagerness to make an original table - however, I think you need to spend a little more time getting the table ready before release.

Still missing some sound effects or a high-score board, and needs something to connect it more to Kongo Jungle, but is pretty much done.

It's missing quite a bit more than that - for example you've got no game start or end routines (it even produces an error when the game ends).
[line 132 - you're trying to reset the light state of a collection, but you write it as though it's only one light. Use this instead:]

Personally I think you should've looked at a few other original tables first...see what other people have done, and asked for more advice via your WIP thread.
At the moment, this really isn't much more than the "new" table layout with a couple of targets on. Really not what I would describe as "pretty much done".
Don't mean to be really negative, but if you want people to pay any attention to an original table it needs to be very much more than this.

A little help with the script does not make me an author smile.gif

I was shocked when I saw you Dan, (Wizards Hat) on that pin as an author
I would have thought you would have put more work into that pin since your name is on it
but now I see you just gave some advice out
for future pins best to ask where they want their names (if at all) on or in the pin
and every time I ask a question doesn't mean that persons name goes into the pin
only if I got lots of help (a DMD scoring board, start and end gaming routines etc)
do I then put their name into it as recognition for a job well done!
good luck though on building originals, don't give up!
just ask and we'll be more than happy to help ya'

My advice would be to start with a template (any) because you can look at things and see what's going on and how they're being done. That's how I started.

Thanks for the information. However, I am a bit confused. I haven't gotten any errors when playing, and the banana lights seem to reset fine on my computer. What would cause differences between players?

Are you sure you updated your latest version to this site?
What code are you using to reset the lights? If it is the same version as I have downloaded from here line 132 will error - "BananaLights" is now a collection it cannot have a "state" of its own, so "babanalights.state=1" creates an error ("Object does not support this property or method")

Dan.

having playtested this wip I can say it is far from done!
it needs a start and end routine, some scoring, sounds, plastics
and other assorted artwork, but you are on the right track!
try dropping it into a template (itchigo has both 2player and a 4player ones in the resource area)
THEN repost it and we'll playtest it again for ya'
or we can give you some insight on the finer points
(sound effects, background music, a backdrop, fonts and their colors, etc.)
oh and I got no errors at all when playing
