Tables I got problem with:
ATTACK FROM MARS_vp91x_2.3.1FS
ATTACK FROM MARS_VP91x_v2.3FS

My problem:

Lets say im on Ball 1.
I lock 3 balls and get MULTIBALL. With them I destroy a ship and get 4 or 5 balls in play. Im playing and losing just one ball and the game just dies and all the other balls just goes down the middle. After that I begin the next ball, but after launch I get the other balls back. But if I lose one or two balls the game dies and I have to use another launch. This sucks so hard. =/

Is it a bug or is it something with the table rules am missing?

I have the same problem (at least some kind of). For me there are usually two balls left after multi ball and the table goes back to "normal" mode.
When I am loosing one of them, the table disables my flipper fingers and the other ball goes down.
This bug destroyed a lot of games for me...

I tried it with the megapin version some minutes ago: Same problem...

Let's see if I recall correctly; Martian Attack (two-ball) Multiball adds one ball, Multiball (three-ball) adds two balls, Total Annihilation (four-ball) adds three balls, and.....have I forgotten anything? EDIT: Strobe (three-ball) Multiball.

Anyway, you can earn more than one multiball mode at a time, so there will seem to be balls everywhere. Trouble is, the ROM probably feels the same way, and occasionally loses track of how many are supposed to be there; maybe it adds one too many, or maybe it registers twice when one ball drains.....I have no idea. But in addition to the early end-of-ball you described, you'll get not one, but two (or more?) balls in the launcher lane to start the next ball.

When this happens (and eventually you may be able to 'sense' this phenomenon while the previous multiball is still in effect), press "B" and then "N" (No) to remove a ball from the trough and restore the correct ball-count. For me, the best time to hit "B" is while/after the second ball has been launched (but before the first one has had a chance to drain).

There are doubtlessly those who can explain this better than I have, but give my 'remedy' a shot anyway; AFM is too much fun to be kicked to the archives.

That sounds great. Thanks for that hint. I will try it out.

Only four.....I'll take your word for that, Joe. I didn't mean to imply that all 'nine' balls were out at once, although my AGP rig can always make one wonder.

Sadly I have seen this happen many times as this is one of my favourite recreations.

Your explaination is correct after the early end of life without fail you will get 2 balls in the launcher lane. It does appear to be a combination of 2 of the multiball modes together that seems to cause it. Total Annihilation is normally running when it has happened for me.

Anyone have the real deal that has seen it happen? Or is it just the recreations?

Cheers,
Jay

Total Annihilation and then Multi Ball seems to trigger that problem (nearly) every time.

Maybe some kind of maximum ball count is reached then? Maybe the ROM "knows" that there can only be a maximum of maybe 5 balls on the table? While the recreation just adds 2 others for the multiball (1+3+2)?

Just a wild, wild guess...

I just found another bug.

I reached (for the first time dblthumb.gif ) Master of the Universe. Just on the second ball.
After I finished that successfully, I continued to play - but lost the ball very fast.
Then I was able to restart Master of the Universe again (within the same game). But I got reelected very, very fast. No way I earned 5 billion points in that time.
So I think maybe the score does not start from 0 again?

Okay, run into that problem in an (for me) epic game otvwimper.gif
Tried it out - didn't understand that nothing happened and repeated the process several times... Made me loose my last ball on a multi ball (without any additional balls).

So the good news is: It works. Thanks a lot! Next time it will be of great use.

Sorry about that; I didn't think to clarify that the addition or removal of a ball takes place 'under the table', and the ball/s on the playfield are unaffected. There is, however, a sound like that of a tortured cat for a second or so.....

QUOTE (Shake @ Jul 4 2012, 01:59 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Total Annihilation and then Multi Ball seems to trigger that problem (nearly) every time.

Decided to check out the rules (red bar at top of page, 'Other features' > Useful Links > Rule Sheets) and brush up a bit. Martian Multiball can combine with either Regular or Strobe Multiball---as long as Martian ATTACK begins before the other Multiball does (hitting all four Martians then adds Martian Multiball to the other); it (M.M/B) can also combine with Total Annihilation, but either one can start first. Near as I can tell, though, we don't get the sum of the two modes' balls; merely the benefit of the difference between M.M/B's two and the other's three or four.

QUOTE (JayP @ Jul 3 2012, 03:49 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Yeah; T.A. seems to be somehow involved.

Something of which I was unaware is the Annihilation Jackpot, which increases with each T.A. Jackpot at the loops and ramps, and is awarded at the Lock Lane. No wonder I get widely disparate scores in games with comparable amounts of effort---and profanity. rolleyes.gif

The most time-consuming Objective in your first Rule The Universe is to Conquer Mars; this is no longer required for the second and subsequent attempts. Couple that with all major features being lit for high values and the escalating values of Victory Laps, and the remaining five Objectives fill up in a hurry. So, I'll bet you did score five billion, and rather quickly. I'll also bet that you'll get used to it. tup.gif

Good Hunting!

Yes, Joe is correct
we opened up AFM today and it says "install 4 balls" ..... and we both would swear that it had 5 last time I played it.

Maybe thats what plays up on this creation, it seems to work normally with the 5 ball ROTU everytime.

ROTU is also quicker to complete at re starts cause the jackpots build up,
So get multiball , collect Super Jackpot for 250M, 500M, 750M, 1B, it builds each time you collect up to 1B.
That way ROTU only takes 4 or 5 shots to complete, a nice fast 10B.
