Orbitor 1 VP9 WS Mod

Version: 1.0
Category: VP/VPinMAME 9.x - MOD Tables

Author(s): Destruk, Skalar, User42

Description:

This is a VP9 Mod and complete overhaul of the existing VP8 table. Big thanks to Destruk and Skalar and anyone else who worked on the original release. Thanks to TAB and jpsalas for letting me "borrow" from their tables. Thanks again to Destruk for putting up with my noobish questions. Quick thanks to my buddy GSP who came by and helped me work out a few problems. And lastly thanks to everyone who posted with advice in my WIP thread.

The first time you play this you will want to press F6 and adjust the dip switch menu. (At the very least you will want to turn on the sounds and Extra Ball)

This is a crazy table and I hope that I have done it justice. Please enjoy.

You chose a tough table as your first one and came through with flying colors. Great job and thanks dblthumb.gif

can't wait to play it! Am wondering how you did the spinner bumpers
did you use a magnet or spindiscs? or both? and how about that pf?
did ya' make it bumpy like the real one too? the real one is weird to play, i saw it one time in action
the ball is so unpredictable coming down the field due to those spinners
hey either way you did it is cool as YOU DID IT!
for your first table, i agree that was a doozy of one to pick!
Now with this one under your belt tho we can expect to see many more cool innovative tables coming from you!

This game is so bizarre. Thanks for this! Nice job! The effect of the ball sinking around the spinning bumpers is pretty awesome.

Thanks everyone, it definitely had it's rough moments but it was totally worth it. I do love this table for all of it's weirdness.

The spinning bumpers are invisible turntables. The playfield is a combo of ramps and magnets. A friend of mine says that he wants to try to recreate the "bowls" out of ramps. If he is successful in getting it to play smooth, I may remove the magnets. A real bowl around the bumpers would make for a more realistic simulation.

Being triggered by another thread regarding unique tables I tried to change this table from WS to FS. That was pretty easy. Only thing I couldn't figure out is how to rotate the game over / shoot again etc images that are separate from the PF. I exported the image, rotated it and then imported it back in. That didn't work quite well... For playing this table it is not really necessary but I like to know how I can adjust things like this as well.
I am sure adjusting it is a pretty basic editor skill. A couple of pointers or a good thread / tutorial where I can find this information would be appreciated.

BTW, game is pretty nice. I did increase the flippersize and gave them a bit more strenght. It was impossible (for me at least) to hit the orbitor targets. In this video you can see that is rather easy and the ball can hit the back of the table with a pretty high speed.

It's hard to say without knowing exactly what you are doing but I guess that you prob need to stretch the "game over" in photoshop to match what ever changes you made to the background image.

If someone wants to make a nice FS B2S with this table they have my blessing. I don't have the time...
Here is a nice BG pic if anyone wants to do it.

The Orbitor 1 machine that I play has really weak flippers but maybe thats just because it is old... I just tried to emulate that experience.

Well, not sure what the issue is. I am beginning to understand the editor a bit better though. The picture is a combination of 2 pictures. The only thing I did was rotate and import the picture. That is appearantly not the method. I don't think it should be stretched, but I might have to do something with the object that contains the picture. Need to do some more reading on the forum I guess.

The table is really something different and that is the reason I like to have a descent FS version of it. I wasn't planning on a B2S, and wanted to add the objects somewhere on the playfield where it is not disturbing.
Great thing about VP is that you can change the physics yourself so it will play however you like. I think the table is already hard enough with stronger flippers smile.gif

for those who need info about this game, or want pictures on how the curves are setup on the actual game. I own this game and can give you info that you need. Also, have a NOS plastics set, that I have not put in my game yet, if you want actual scans of the plastics (which are all just black anyway except for the instruction panels).

Having new plastic scans is always good. I do not plan to update anytime soon but if someone wants to do a FS conversion they may want the new scans.

As for the curves, I know how they are set up...unfortunately VP does not do curvy forms easily (or spinning bumpers FWIW). I am using a combination of ramps turntables and magnets to simulate the experience....
