I'm asking this here and not just in help, because people familiar with scripting will no doubt be able to glance at it and say, "Oh that's because of x, just do y and it's fixed".

A few of us are using Linux and we'd like FP to work, which it did in the past (since timebombed) but doesn't now.

It loads tables and the editor (for somebody who knows nothing of making tables) seems spot on, but playing tables provides odd errors. Here's a typical example:
CODE
Pinball Meditation Error
Script Error: Line 208
Variable is undefined: 'BulbOff'

Now I decided to make it happy and define BulbOff in the script wink.gif About 10 more Variable undefined errors later, the table loaded.

I've posted in more detail on the FP under Linux thread so I won't duplicate here.

What seems to be the problem by my non-scripting eyes, is that some keys that FP should be defining (not in the table scripting but the program itself) isn't happening for one reason or another. Oddly, the tilt buttons and function keys work fine, so it's not a key defining problem across the board. Just the ones that let you play!

BulbOff isn't a key, it's a basic state property for a light object in FP. I don't know what changed between your working 'timebombed version' and the last release. Do your tables play correctly in the last release if you manually define each error property? I mean do the lights turn on and off like they should?

Thanks for your reply. When I was changing the script I was sure I was defining them incorrectly (I have no idea when it comes to FP scripting), but just tried to remove the error to see if the table was playable afterwards. After it reported a different error the second time, I figured I was at least removing the error smile.gif

Everything used to work, as the reports at Wine's appdb page for Future Pinball show.

Just to be clear, I'm not after a solution to fix my problem, rather asking for a solution as to why it's incompatible in Linux for all Linux users. smile.gif I thought that people who know FP scripting (which is why I posted here) might be able to look at it and say, "Oh, that's because those properties are defined by FP in this way", so we could nail down why it's not working under Linux. It's not just me having the problem, as the thread I linked to above shows.

Those properties are defined in FP by the EXE. They usually aren't scripted because they are contained in an IDL file when Future Pinball is compiled, much like how Visual Pinball works.
The interface definition library is compiled and provides the various methods and properties the scripting engine is allowed to use.
Maybe someone more familiar with the scripting system will have more insight into why it's not working.
