Whenever you see an issue resolved, try to compile the digest of symptoms (what happens, what errors do you get etc.) and solutions (what to do to resolve the issue). When possible, try to get a reason the error comes up (what happens in the background, this is something for the tech-savvy people).

Name: Fraps-F***up
Symptoms: VP crashes back to the desktop without any errors.
Solutions: Stop using Fraps when playing VP.
Reason: Unknown to me.

Name: Gottlieb Coin-Muncher
Symptoms: You press the "5" button on a Gottlieb, but no credits are added.
Solutions: Download the fitting NVRams (http://vpforums.org/...etail&f_id=1362) OR
"After the self test and when it says Game Over, Press 7, Wait for it to show you the menu with bookkeeping, adjustments, selftest, etc - press left flipper 3 times to move the highlight to adjustments, press right flipper to select that option, press 1, press 1, then quit and replay the table and you have your nvram. Most gottlieb system 3 games work this way." (Thanks Destruk!)
Reason: "The reason you need the Gottlieb (Sys 3) NVRam file, or to manually adjust, is that the GS3 tables default to Zero for the Max Credits. Zero max credits mean you can never add credits." (Thanks Scapino!)

Would require help from the other staff, I haven't suggested that yet. But if it gets picked up, we might as well already start collecting, right?

I recently discovered a really strange bug when using VP8 and VP9 on the same system. I guess I'll post it here since it seems to fit... please edit my post if it's not supposed to go here.

Name: VP8 to VP9 Switch Bug

Symptoms: After opening the VP8 .exe, the computer system seems to "lock" into a mindset of playing only VP8 tables when you then try to open VP9 tables in VP9.04 or .05. Running the tables in the newer versions of VP9 gives errors about scripts, such as "unable to open WPC.VBS" or similar, "Can't load VPinmame Variable is undefined", "VPinMAME ver 01560000 required." and etc. (The later errors seem to vary depending on table, these are for emulated VP9 tables such as Attack from Mars or Lord of the Rings. Original VP9 tables seem to just get random script errors or crashes if they decide to run.) As a side note, I'm running windows 7 64 bit, and VP8 and earlier versions of VP9 need permission from Administrator to run and change the computer no matter what options I've tried to find

Solutions: After some frustrations and uninstalling/reinstalling, I did find a work around fortunately. Recommend you install the VP Installer on this website (backing up your roms, tables, etc if you need to remove your old installation). It should install not only VP8 but an early version of VP9, VP9.02. This is important. Download the latest version of VP9 (Currently VP9.05) and put it in the Visual Pinball folder with the other VP#.exes.
Now, whenever you play a VP8 table, and want to play VP9 but can't because your computer is stuck in that VP8 mindset... Simply close VP8, open VP9.02, then close that. Now, open VP9.05 and run your table. It should work without a hitch and no script errors.

Reason: Heck if I know, maybe one of you coding-type peoples can look into this and find out what's causing this? I'm not sure what's going on. If you need any more information from me, or can lend more valuable info as to what's going on, please ask or let us know what might be causing this.

Hopefully, this has been helpful!

I had something similar once and the game was missing a VBS file, more accurately it wasn't in the correct folder.
I was just thinking that we should have a master list of codes, what they mean and what to do.

I have another problem, if anyone's up for it. I have some Stern tables with no sound: Dracula VP9, Nugent VP8, Stars VP8. All have mechanical sounds (solenoids, plunger, etc) but no game sounds. Also Scapino's Playboy VP8 which was working, now is not- same thing. I've redownloaded the games and roms, with no effect. Almost sounds like a bad sound rom?? Any ideas?? think.gif
