Hello all. It is great to see a community keeping the classic pinball games alive. My favourite pinball game back in the day was The Addams Family. I would love to get this working on my Window 7 based PC. Is this possible? What do I need to DL? The site is a little overwhelming for the novice. If someone can help be getting the game running I'm willing to offer a monetary payment via Paypal. TIA!

Start by getting the VP Installer

and then go here: Installation Guide

(Both of these links are taken from cliking "Getting Started" at the top left of any page of this site).

Hope this helps,
Regards,
Dan.

Addams family is my favorite game also, I actually just threw away my real table, since I stripped it completely for a refinish to make it perfect and lost my digitial camera that had my pictures, thought it was too big of a job to fix so I threw it away, very sad. Anyway I built a VP cabinet, which is just amazing. I have run win 64 bit, 32 bit, pro, ultimate, but have settled on winxp pro, as it seems to run tables better than win7. Addams family does work though with win7 without problems. Easiest way to set up was to use vpinstaller and then copy newest vpmame and vp 9.12 over no install directory. Copy roms to roms folder and tables to tables folder. Really easy, pm me if you want more help ( dont pay anyone as there are many here who are willing to help.

I'm also hoping I'm just reading that wrong or he mistyped. Ppl can't be throwing away TAF's, no matter how trashed they are! Even the most trashed TAF's are valued into the thousands. Was an attempt to sell it or give it away made?

There are different versions of VP. You have to run the correct version of VP that the table was made for. Tell us which version of Addams Fammily you are trying to run and which version of VP you are using. Click the Help at the top of the VP editor and then click on "About" to find the version of VP you have installed. I would guess you are using the wrong version for the table you are trying to play.

Post any error messages. Post your pc specs and your graphics card if you have one.

Good luck

Wow that's a lot of errors. smile.gif

Did you do any of the stuff below from the Installation guide? Link below to guide.

http://www.vpforums....u...l&f_id=2990

Updating the VP and VPM installation:

VP and VPM have gone through some development since the VP Installer 1.0.3 was written, so it does not contain the latest versions of these software packages (see the 2 remarks about 'outdated version' above). You will have to perform the following manual steps to update your installation. After that you will be able to play any downloaded VP/VPM table, even the latest ones, with VP8 or VP9.

Perform these steps:

• download VP 9.1.2 Standalone (VPinball912_Minimal.zip) to a temporary folder on your harddrive.
• open it by double-clicking and extract the contained files VPinball912.exe and FreeImage.dll into the VP folder.
The procedure adds the latest VP9 release to your installation.
• create a link to it on your desktop
• according to your Windows version, apply the "run as administrator" and "compatibility mode" settings to VPinball912.exe, as described earlier.
• download VPinMAME 2.3 (vpinmame_23.zip) and double-click it to open it in a window -or -
• download VPinMAME 2.3.1 Cabinet build (VpinMame_Cabinet_build.zip) and double-click it to open it in a window (this version of the VPinMAME.dll removes the splash screen at the start of the table, allows for ignoring CRC's, eliminates many of the popups for 'sound not accurate', etc.)
• from the open window copy just the chosen VpinMAME.dll file to the VPinMAME subfolder in your VP folder. Overwrite the file by the same name. This updates your installation to the latest VPM version.
VP8 and VP9 use the same VPM version.
• open the VPinMAME subfolder inside the VP folder, double-click Setup.exe. This will open a window. Verify that the 3rd line in this window reads “Visual PinMAME Version 2.3 is currently installed on your computer”, then quit. If the displayed version is not 2.3, click 'Install', follow the prompts, then quit.
• you may delete the (outdated) VPinball_9_0_2.exe from the VP folder and its link from your desktop. You have added the latest VP9 version in a previous step.
• create a new subfolder by the name 'Music' inside the VP folder. Some table zip or rar files contain mp3 files that will have to be stored in this Music folder and will be used during play of the specific table.
• download the VBS Scripts v3-32 and extract the contained files into your Tables folder, overwrite the vbs files there. This will update and add the latest versions of the script files.
• Install the Font Collection 3.8 for Visual Pinball. In Windows XP it is ok to unzip all fonts to a temporary folder, open it, select all fonts and copy them to C:\Windows\Fonts. In Windows 7 you rather select all fonts inside the temp folder, right-click one of them and choose 'Install' from the context menu.
If in doubt about how to add fonts, consult Windows Help or other sources for the proper procedure according to your Windows version.
The default location of the fonts folder is C:\Windows\Fonts. Some of the fonts from the collection may already have been installed earlier, answer the corresponding messages accordingly.

Also, if you haven't done so already, make sure you have VP set to "Run As Administrator".

This looks like the error that sometimes happens to me when the vbs files are missing, in fact one of your errors says that a vbs is missing. For some odd reason sometimes when I'd launch a table my vbs files would just vanish, get deleted somehow. Not sure I've had this happen with VP9, but then again its been a while now where I set all my vbs files to "read only", & that fixed them from getting deleted.
So that is something you can check real quick, make sure all those are in your tables folder still.

yh You need to give up, Iv been trying to play this for two weeks. Was told you dont have to be computer intelligent. But all the forum has, missing table, how can I resize the ball, error here, error there...and so on. I cant get anything working. Sorry but this is too much, its all full of holes. Far too complicated. Get a life, dont waste hours here, meet a girl/guy. I had some decent replies to previous queries. The ppl were helpful. But, It would appear that as a manual worker I dont possess the the programming skills to play pinball....pity

This is an old thread, so who knows if any help is still wanted.

And what's with you, samiro? You need and want help?
Then let us know.

It's all really not that very complicated, but I'm sure it's much
too much for anyone who just bought ones first PC today and
wants to play VP/VPM tables as the first action. Then all the
tutorials are only confusing. That's the price you have to pay.
It's all for free without charge. No commercial software, but
hobbyists projects.

To give up or not, that's always your own decision. If you have
the needed patience to read and learn and you really want this,
there's no need to give up. Just to make that clear!

Wow.
Who digs up a thread that is almost a 1/2 year old, just to complain?
If you need help getting things running, just ask.
Getting VP up and running is not a one click process, but it certainly is not rocket science.
