Superman Vs Ali 2012 WS

Version: 2012 WS
Category: VP/VPinMAME 9.x - MOD Tables

Author(s): JP Salas, Bob5453

Description:
Widescreen Only
Version 2012 - added layback and adjusted view to my current preference. Changed bumper rings and made some table adjustments and speed adjustments.

This is a mod of JP Salas' Ali table. It also uses the Ali ROM. First release of a WS version

New WS backdrop and I added the alpha ramp plastics from JP's new Ali table, plus I fixed one light that I never uncovered in my original mod.

Thanks to JP for allowing this mod, everything is his work, except for me adding Superman to the table. Artwork from the one shot Superman Vs Muhammad Ali comic blended in with the Ali table.

The cover of the comic is pretty cool, I think it says 1978. Try to name all 172 celebrities on it without Googling them.

Jeez, Jimmy Carter gets front row seats and doesn't even watch the fight. What a waste.

Thanks for the mod Bob!

Thanks Bob!

If anyone is interested, it's fairly simple to use the FS settings from 'Ali' by JPSalas to convert Bob's Superman vs. Ali table to Fullscreen portrait orientation / cabinet use. Here are the settings:

The Backdrop settings:

just wondering,
sometimes there is not an FS version.
alot of vp8 and originals have no FS.
after using the the xy scales to do the rotate, not always, targets, images etc sometimes look a little stretched from top to bottom and side to side.
usually looks stretched from top to bottom.
rotating a vertical table usually works ok.
not always.
could you real short tell us how to work on that with the tables converted to FS using the xy scales?

To be able to mod a table, you have to be able to understand how it was built so that you can get at the walls and other parts you want to mod. Some people can figure it out simply by taking a table apart, piece by piece. I would recommend you read one of the workshop tutorials. In fact the 90's workshop is about 95% complete; only the scripting part is yet to be finished.

90's Workshop

Oh yeah, it's 19 pages long and has over 300 pages of useful information! It's a good place to start reading to learn some of what the VP editor can do.
Decide for yourself after reading that workshop if you want to attempt it. Modding or building tables can be a very rewarding hobby.

Best Regards,
Todd.

Yeah, I kind of feel bad just thinking about Ali going up against Superman. He absorbed too much punishment from humans as it is stunned.gif vava.gif

Thanks for the update Bob!

Good eye Mitch, I had to flip the image to have Superman facing to the right. I tried to cover it up with the score box. smile.gif

oh yeah I remember starting the independence day pin way back when, dropping out in the early classes
gee that happened in real school too...anyhow, that was and still is a fantastic tutorial.
it explains everything, from a new table to the finished thing! Great to start on...but it
does get very intensive esp with the ramps! those things gave even ME nightmares and I l-o-v-e ramps!
but you do that and you can do any of the great recreations IMO again I dropped out I love building
originals and could not wait that long (no offense to those who waited it out and our teacher!)
but go with that one and ya' can't go wrong! I guess he even did scripting lessons too
again I left early never went back (sorry teach!) so have no clue if the coding was shown how to do too.

maybe he bought his suit at Kids R Us and they reversed the"S"
ya' know some one did their sign and he sees this come through,
and well next thing ya know it goes out like that and there ya' go!

And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.”
