Bubblegum Crisis MegaTokyo 2035 VP9

Version: 1.0.0
Category: VP 9.x Originals

Author(s): Neo

Description:
BGC 2035 table updated to work with VP9. This is still a favorite table of mine and I felt it was deserving of the update. This table uses alpha transparency on the ramps, thus you'll need at least VP 9.11 to run this table.
Bubblegum Crisis MegaTokyo 2035 VP9
Visual Pinball Table DPT-9002 Version 1.0.0

Release Date: 3/19/2011
Author: Neo

Updates to convert the table to VP9:

-Add StartShake command to enable visible table nudging
-Tweak plunger/flippers/nudging for VP9 physics
-Rebuild/adjust upper level
-Make C1 and Wangan ramps alpha-transparent
-Enclose save calls on table exit with an if-then to prevent saves if we exit during table boot-up
-Implemented new clock system for timed modes. All timed modes are now controlled by the clock timer instead of separate contract/boomer timers.
-Remade the bumpers
-Resolved lingering issues with spotting boomers and an issue with the 33S mode prematurely ending when part 1 is completed

Game music is produced by Youmex and released by Futureland of Japan. Featuring vocal music by Kinuko Ohmori (the voice actress for Priss)

That being said, here's what the zip file contains:

-Bubblegum Crisis MegaTokyo 2035 vp91x.vpt
-Digital Readout TrueType font (Score/Status Displays)
-A readme file
-Table rulesheet in text format
-Operator Menu System guide in text format
-All game music (see below)

The TrueType font is for the display and it needs to be installed into your Windows/Fonts folder (WINNT/Fonts if you're running 2000). This way you can see the table as it was meant to be :-)

This table also uses the LoadValue/SaveValue functions in Visual Pinball, which loads and saves to the file VPreg.stg. This is known to cause problems if you do not run VP in the same folder as it is installed, and also if the file is marked as Read-Only, so you'll need to keep that in mind.

The included Music Packs contain
The four tracks used for the main game music
Table Startup music
Start and end of game music
High-Score entry music
Music for all the contract modes
Victory Mode Music
AD Police, Replicants, and Signature Multiball tracks
Music for all Boomer modes
Largo boomer battle music track (vpbgcboomer6.mp3)

The game music is unchanged from the VP8 version so if you already have the VP8 version you won't need to extract the music files again.

All game music should go into your VP Music folder. If this folder does not exist in your VP folder, you may need to create it.

Hope you like it, If you have any questions, suggestions, or constructive comments about this table, you can PM me if you're a member of VPForums.org, pinball-originals.com, or pinballnirvana.com. Or, you can email me at [email protected]. Honestly, PM'ing through vpforums or Pinball Nirvana is the fastest way as I check those sites often. Email, not so much...

I really like this table. I do have 1 question, when you launch a ball is the ball save supposed to be that generous? If I let the ball drain I can get around 4X before the ball save goes off, mind you I still have not come close to 700,000.

Thanks for the comment.

At start of ball it's 20 seconds (it's 15 in most of the multiball modes, and it's 60 in Signature Multiball), and the timer doesn't start until the ball leaves the upper level at the start of the ball, so yea it might be a bit generous. I sometimes just let the ball drain myself. I still get my share of low-scoring games despite the ball save time, so I haven't changed it yet.

I may look at changing it so the timer starts when the ball enters the playfield after launch.

Pretty cool Neo! A futuristic Japanese theme. Very nice display. Very complex script I imagine.
Thank you for update to VP9.

This table is nice and rotates well for full screen except the text boxes for the score. Are there any rotated text box classes out there? Is there any documentation on how to interface with UVP directly for this sort of thing?

I forgot I had erased all my 9.1.1 folders, had to get it again. This table plays well in vp9.1.1! Even better than the old one if that's possible! One question, is there supposed to be music? I have none. great conversion Neo! thanks for another great one! cool.gif

Yeah, there's plenty of music (about 28MB worth). There's an option to turn the music off but it's set to on by default (F6 in attract mode, go to the main menu and the go to Options/Environment and the game music toggle is in Option 5). If the music's in the VP Music folder, that option, and the Play Music box in VP is checked is on the music should play. I'd also check the Windows audio properties, and maybe the Windows volume control, and make certain none of the audio output settings are muted.

I wonder if what's causing the lack of music on Harry Potter is causing the same thing to happen on BGC. That's the only thing I can think of, and I haven't been able to reproduce that. So if everything checks out and it's still not playing, I'm afraid I don't really know how to fix it.

I messed with some FS settings, and outside of the display it does rotate well. Unfortunately the display is pretty vital (all in-game messages, scores, stats, and option settings appear in the display). The lack of rotatable text boxes is what is preventing me from making a FS version (which I'd otherwise would love to do. It looks pretty good in FS). I'm hopeful they'll one day include rotatable text boxes in a future version of VP.

Thanks billy. Yes, the script's quite complex (about 14,000 lines), but the same time this table has quite a bit to do (15 modes, several multiballs, VPM-style operator settings, high-score name entry, and so on). I had what I though were pretty simple ideas, but as often happens I ran into complications I wasn't planning on, and that can also cause the script to balloon a bit.

When I first built this back in '06, I was looking for a 90s-style DMD-era table, and making a proper DMD was (and still is) beyond my current skill set, so I layered 20+ text boxes on top of each other to get the closest thing to a DMD that I knew how to make. It did come out all right in the end but text boxes have their own little quirks (what fits on a 4:3 CRT may not fit on a 16:9 widescreen flat-panel).

Thanks guys. Appreciate the comments
