How close in vp do you think you can make it look?
When I test the render in
VP without any cuts, the result is exactly the same. In a certain way, it should be actually better in the future, because this is a temporary render, with draft quality and no anti-aliasing.
But it’s true that I could have some problems when I will cut the table in different zones (flippers, slingshots, bumpers, lights, etc…). It’s because I’m using global illumination and when you move something, all the lighting around it is affected, so at some point it’s tricky to avoid all the “pop” between all the zones. It’s something I have in my head and I will do my best to avoid the bad joins or reduce them at their maximum.
I will also have to take care of the ball reflections. During the tests I did, it wasn’t really disturbing to don’t have animation on the ball, but in order to make it better, I will animate the ball texture through the script (20 different textures for example or more if necessary), it won’t be the same as a real reflection, but it can simulate it a little bit.
And the last problem will be the reflection of the ball onto the table… I don’t have solution for this unfortunately

2nd- Since you are using EM Reels, there will be no way to tweek the Lay Back after it is produced, can you set and configure the Table to an Inclination of 5, FOV 40, and Lay Back of 80 to give it the most realistic viewpoint.
You should see more of the top of the flippers and not the back; and farther up the playfield you will see more of the side of things vs the tops.
When
VP 910 was released (first version with lay back), I did some tests with it, but unfortunately I went to the conclusion that I wasn’t going to use this option on this table… 2 reasons for that:
- Once I have a good lay back with
VP (with good scales and position), I need to recreate exactly the same point of view and the same lay back effect in my 3D software. The problem is that I don’t have the lay back option in my 3D camera

. So I need to bend all my objects geometry, which is not impossible but really complicated to do! The meshes need to be adapted for this. I started this table 2 months before VP910 and I would have to redo a lot of things and it would take even more time to finish the table.
- My current 3D camera matches perfectly with the
VP one, but it also took a while to get it. If I move any parameter, I need to resynchronize it again! (x_X).
I know it’s too bad to don’t use this new functionality, I was a bit frustrated to decide not using it, but since it’s my first table, I prefer to limit the difficulties. Maybe next table, that way I will be able to plan everything from the beginning, taking into account this option immediately.
