Amazing Spiderman 2009 VP8 (Bob5453)

Version: 2009
Category: VPinMAME 8.x Recreations

Author(s): Bob5453

Description:
This is a New VPM Table Released Feb, 2009 by Bob5453
The Amazing Spider-man 2009 for VP8

This version uses the new 7 digit ROM (available at VPF) This ROM works for VPM tables, but still has errors that

show up in a real Gottlieb Amazing Spider-man table, so don't use the ROM in a real table. I also couldn't set the

replay score level in this ROM to 310,000, so if anyone figures this out, maybe they could upload their nvram file.

You can change some dip switches by pressing F6 for Inkochnito's Dip switch memu. There are 2 types of sounds

available in the menu, I prefer "Sound Mode" over "Tone Mode" but check them both out. If you want FREE balls,

you must choose "Normal Game Mode" under "Novelty" or you'll just hear replay knockers and I don't seem to get

the replays either. Blownfuse (screenname) will get me the fixed ROM as soon as it is completely fixed.

I like a Blue display for this ROM, click F1, click on color and change to blue, click F3 to restart ROM for new

color.

This version uses all new table and plastic pics, a big "thank you" to Blownfuse for taking them.

The original VPM script was done by Gaston.

Thanks to JPSalas and Shockman and others mentioned in script.

Press I to see the instruction cards. Look in table info section for complete rules. Completing right target bank

lights left target bank for a Free Ball.

The ROM is under the "S" for Spiderman, get the 7 digit ROM or you can use the 6 digit Spiderman ROM if you look in the script and choose that one.

I played your new version for over an hour Bob and it looks great with those nice sharp plastics and bright playfield. It has a lot more action to it than your last version. Just as fun as your 'Mars Attacks'.

I lowered the slope to 7, and found it still played very fast. Seemed to help the angles on the bounce from drop targets, and cut down the number of balls I was losing to side drains.

I'm really enjoying this table, great update.

Thanks for the replies. If anyone can get the replay value set to 310,000 for first replay and 430,000 for second and 590,000 for third replay as shown on the instruction card (press I) Could you post how you did it and maybe upload the nvram file. Here are the instructions I have, but I can't get to to advance 10,000, it will only advance 100,000 for me.

Directions To Change Score Needed For Replays

1. Press 7 to enter test mode.

2. Continue to press 7 until you see 11 in the credit display.

3. Press and release the 1 key to zero out any score that is currently stored there (You probably have zero there currently, but you still have to perform this step)

4. Press and hold the 1 key until you get to the replay score you want to set it to. The score will increment by 100,000 points while you are holding the 1 key in.

5. Press 7 again to see 12 in the credit display

6. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to set the second replay score.

7. Press 7 again to see 13 in the credit display.

8. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to set the third replay score.

9. Press 7 again to see 14 in the credit display

10. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to set the high game to date score.

11. either wait 60 seconds or press F3 to save your changes to the nvram.

This procedure should work for all Gottlieb System 80s, 80As and 80Bs. Note that the System 80s will increment the score by 10,000 while you are holding in the 1 key, the 80As and 80Bs will increment by 100,000.

Thanks for the comments.

Did anyone try to set the replay award on the 7 digit ROM?

Yes Bob, I did try to set the replay award, and you are correct that the replay score is incremented by 100,000 points when you press the 1 key instead of the 10,000 points I had stated in my System 80 tutorial.

I think that maybe something may be wrong with that 7-digit Romset, that the replay level/high score values got pushed to the left when the seventh digit was added. The normal Romset is still correct though, as I had tried that as well with your new version of this table.

This is only an opinion though. I may not be correct in my statement above.

For some reason, the VPM display isn't the deep blue that Bob's screenshot is.

Anyhoo, can anyone confirm that the RGB color for Gottleib is 0,233,233? I got that from the Caveman table, but am unsure if that is accurate or not. If those numbers are right, then I can change the values for this table accordingly.

Here are the instructions I have, but I can't get to to advance 10,000, it will only advance 100,000 for me.

That's quite understandable since the original software allowed to increase the values at 10,000 points per step but Oliver had to divide each value by 10 to make it fit into 7 digits of course, so now each 10 pt target will really score 1 pt only, but it's displayed as scoring 10 points!

So naturally, the award will only increase by 100,000 now each step if set by the game itself.
You can manually edit the nvram though so the replay values fit your desires. I hope you on't mind me setting the HSTD to 1,000,000 points to show off the new feature... smile.gif

[edit]
Hmm, funny enough the game software does *only* compare the 10,000s digit it seems, so whatever value you fake, the replays will be given for each full 100K only!
So either live with that, or play the old fashioned 6-digit version. The table is tough enough, and rolling it over is a great feeling then! smile.gif

Thanks Gaston, the only thing I would suggest is to click on F6 and set the "Novelty" to "Normal Game Mode" as this allows you to earn Free Balls.

I looked at a lot of Gottlieb games over the years with this. You can find their displays here:
http://www.bostonpin...splays-info.htm

From what I've been able to learn, they used Teal - kind of a green/blue shade here
http://en.wikipedia....ki/Teal_(color)

http://ipdb.org/show...475&picno=11622
0/233/233 seems close to that for me.
Blue, orange, green, and probably red.

Getting display colors accurate is quite difficult, as any picture can show a different shade. Anyway, to correct the script to get Bob's pictured blue displays you can use
Controller.Games(cGameName).Settings.Value("dmd_red")=0
Controller.Games(cGameName).Settings.Value("dmd_green")=0
Controller.Games(cGameName).Settings.Value("dmd_blue")=255

Where cGameName is the romset name you're using, and where the three lines above are before 'controller.run' or '.run' in table_init

To change the color without modifying the table script, simply press F1 to bring up the VPM options window and set the color there, as Bob said in the original post here. -- you'll need to press F3 or quit/replay the table to get the display color to change.

I find that the table has unique gameplay and it looks very very nice! Unique enough to keep my coming back for a few games at a time. I like when these older tables get a deluxe treatment.
