This is an older table in both real life and VP, but it's a favorite of mine, and since I know how to script about as well as I know brain surgery I'm hoping someone can clue me in. This is Leon Spalding's 1965 Bank-a-Ball, btw. I have looked through the script but don't know what to do sad.gif

As a side note, I finally got to play this at last year's Dallas show. I hope it's there again this year, 'cause I have a few more dineros than I did last time. We'll see.

And oh yeah I hope I posted this in the right spot; I don't make new topics all that often.

You have to use VP6 on some of these older tables for them to work. I just tried it with VP7,VP8 & 3 balls is all it will load.
Then i tried with VP6 and it loads all 5 balls.

Yeah, you'd think so, but I went through all 943-or-whatever lines of script (actually just trolling for 'ballsinplay',etc., and any reference to keycode 30, since I don't know Zhidt about it) and the number '5' seems to be everywhere it should be. I was about to shrug and defer to whomever when clyde came to the rescue. I got VP6 'over there' a while back, and finally found a need for it.

It'll do until a 'real' fix is brought to light. good.gif

Yup, I just tried it too, and all 5 balls come out. I never would have thought of that, so thanks big time happy.gif

It gives me an error and crashes when I try to nudge though...maybe I can figure that one out. Regardless, thanks anyway. This has been bugging me for quite a while.

Look at the pic below.... The 2 kickers that are circled need to be moved a little to the right, click on the right one, then hit the right arrow key about 4 times, then click on the left one and hit the right arrow key 2 times, this should move them enough. The table will work then in any version of VP

The problem is, if you delete the apron and start a game, only the first three balls get destroyed by the kicker, the far right 2 balls disappear, I assume the are melting into each other. Thus the Activeballs variable starts at 3 instead of 1 when the first ball is launched.

The nudge worked fine in VP8 for me.

This must be an early Leo Wanker table as it is really ugly.

Thanks bob that will be really helpful, i play this table from time to time but guess I forgot all about this ball issue. It is on the ugly side but we'll take what we can get! smile.gif

I accomplished the same result by changing the timing on the five balls falling towards the ballwaste kicker:

you guys rock biggrin.gif I should have asked about this a long time ago. Fully functioning old VP Bank-a-Ball in VP 8.

Just for the record, it works in VP 9 too, but with a strange bug where its performance gradually degrades. (This happens in VP 8 too, but it's much less pronounced. I might not have noticed it except I was expecting it, since it was a lot worse on my last computer, which was slower.) Well, it does have some corrupted graphics in VP 9 too. I'm not asking for help with any of this, just pointing it out in case anyone's interested.

Thanks happy.gif

If you want to clear up the graphics corruption in the apron while playing in VP9, export BABPLAST.jpg and BABTSTPF2.jpg from the image mangager and resize the images in a program such as "paint.net" to 576 pixels wide by 1024 pixels height. Delete the original images and import the new resized images. For some reason these images seem to render without corruption. Of course, with the larger ball size, playing in VP9 will probably make an easy table to play, much easier!

Not only one 'real' fix, but two! You guys DO rock! But in my never-ending quest for the most inconsequential bit of knowledge, I decided to experiment, and changing numbers back and forth sounds much easier than deleting a table part I may not yet (or ever) have the skills to retrieve.

By the way; I thought numbers like these pertained to kicker direction, rather than timing.....oh, well.
bp1.kick 180,1
bp2.kick 170,1
bp3.kick 160,1
bp4.kick 150,1
bp5.kick 140,1

The result of my experiment is the first four being left at 180,1 and the fifth changed to 179,1---and it works (?!) in all of the VP versions I have (VP6, 7, 8, and 9.02, 05, 07, and 09) though the apron loses track of what it's supposed to look like in the 'Nines'. Hard to believe that changing one ball by one degree--or one millisecond, if that's the case--could force some of them to try and occupy the same space simultaneously.

File this under "Ain't that sump'm?" think.gif

You guys should try the 1950 bank-a-ball. I like it more then the 1960's version.

Bendigo did the original.

Yup, I've played a ton of that one too, although I haven't downloaded it to my new computer yet. I think it's time to fix that problem. That Bank-a-Ball is the first game I played with the flippers you can't hold up to trap a ball...can't remember offhand what that's called.

It's not going to supplant the 1965 Bank-a-Ball as my favorite - everyone has their little quirks lol - but it is a neat game and feels very ahead of its time.

For what it's worth too, the VP version of the 1965 game feels quite authentic. I guess that shouldn't be much of a surprise; it's an uncomplicated, symmetrical game. (I'm going to have to fix how, when coming down the lane, the ball bounces off the end of the left flipper a bit but not the right. That started to get on my nerves a bit last night tongue.gif) I wish I could have played the real thing more when they had it at that show, and I'm dyin' to see if it's there again this year. It had very weak flippers - which I think I could fix - and a starter button problem - which I don't know if I could fix :/ - but was priced at $450, way below the price guide. No one got it...lol...can you tell I'm wondering? I'd be eatin' ramen for a bit...ah phooey it's been way too long since I've been to a show and I'm getting all antsy anyway.

That figures - I hadn't played the 1950 Bank-a-Ball for quite a while, and just got what is easily my best score on it: 4,960,000, with 16 free games won. I don't know if I'd be able to repeat that tongue.gif That's ridiculous lol, I don't normally have that kind of a game.

Just to stay on topic somewhat, if anyone knows what might cause the 1965 game's performance to degrade in VP 9, I'd be interested to know. But the VP 8 version is fine for me anyway.
