Knockout 2011b FS Update

Version: 2011b
Category: VP 9.x Cabinet Tables (FULL SCREEN)

Author(s): Bob5453, Ash

Description:
EM's are great!
Knockout (Bally 1975)

Updated to version 2011b - Added light effects and shadows to playfield.

Updated to version 2011a - Changed the 6 scoring leafs to only score and not slingshot or make the slingshot sound. Thanks to UW for pointing this out.

This is the FS day version. I will release a widescree, 4:3 and night version eventually of this table, but I want to make sure everything works properly before I do this.

I need to thank Ash for his original VP version and giving me permission to use his work (he also gave blanket permission to the community to use his work with proper credit for non-profit)

I also need to thank JPSalas for all of his techniques and artwork that I use, without his stuff, this table would look similar to the VP editors new table.

I want to thank Freddie for getting me started on this table and Grizz for making me the playfield to use as a base. I also used Rawd’s formula for adding hit sounds to the walls and I used the magnet stuff from his table that Rascal helped him. Thanks to Noah for taking great pics of this table, all artwork was taken from his pics and also thanks to Eala who posted a full table image made from these pics, which I think Grizz used to make the playfield.

This table uses the JP plunger based on Rascal’s creative idea where the plunger is made of balls that have a plunger image on them that move back and forth…. A great idea, but it does cause occasional editor crashing, so I put it into the table near the end, I think a restart always works, but we’ll see if anyone has problems. I like it, that’s why I used it.

My images are all 1024, I was almost finished when I realized I should have worked with larger images, but live and learn. I replaced all lettering for sharpness, the font looked pretty close to me.

Obviously, I use different FS settings than most people, I play with one rotated monitor while sitting at my desk, you can easily change these settings as this table is angle independent. The current X and Y scaling settings are in a 4:3 ratio, so the ball is perfectly round.

I have owned this table since 1976, it’s in my basement covered with boxes and stuff, I turned it on once in the last 15 to 20 years, that was to check to see if you could visibly see the bumper rings when the bumpers were hit. Pacdude said you couldn’t, but he was wrong. I did go down and turn it on a few times while creating this table to check out some things. There are 6 more 10 point slings in this verson than the old VP version. I also added some other gameplay that was missing from the original VP release, like the Extra Ball light and Free Ball light rotating On & Off with the spinner spins.

I’ve always wanted to do a VP recreation of this table, but after Ash released his version, it took me a long time to develop enough VP editors skills to compete.

I made this table from start to finish in 8 days, probably a total of 100 hours, but I spent 8 hours coming up with the final bumpers and I spent an hour or 2 trying to figure out where the damn score was stored so I could put it on the scoring reels.

Thanks guys.

I haven't worked on a backglass yet, except for straightening the pic. I'll attach it and someone can make a backglass as I don't use them. Feel free to add a wheel and backglass to this thread if you want.

I'm also attaching a pic of the real table pieced together so you can see there really isn't much in the way of shadows on a day version.

I also forgot to mention that I used the vbscore file for the magnet to help pull the ball into the kickercup, so you'll need to have that file, you already have it if you have VPM installed.

I also just played a game and noticed the ball image is the last one I tried out from a JP table. it's a nice one, but there is also a shiny ball image in the editor if you want to try it too.

It plays great Bob just played a game on my cam in the chat. FYI though the bumpers didn't work for me in 909. Not your fault though smile.gif

I also like the physics much better, maybe you could match your FS release of DAC to play more like this one? DAC FS is a little to fast for me, ...just sayin smile.gif

Why wouldn't the bumpers work in 9.09? Where's Shocky at when you need him?

I use 9.07 and am not ready for 9.09, at least not until Chas has figured it out.

I wonder if they work in 9.08?

If I ever update DAC, it will play more like this one. I go through trends in VP and I currently like a bouncy ball. smile.gif

Hey bob this table is freaking great. I just had a quick question about the other slings, the ones on the left and right of the center lane and the ones on the far left and right. Are they actual slings or are they just standup leaf switches behind the rubbers? I know nothing about the table, so i'm not sure, it just seems like funny places to have an actual sling rather than just a scoring rubber.

Anyways. it's an awesome table and job well done. I'm going to play some more.

Your taking me away from Black hole and deciding which em i want to do biggrin.gif

Thanks Grizz, I didn't get a wheel from you.

The Bumper1 and bumper2 are on a surface called 35h, this isn't really needed as the bumpers are invisible in this version. Freddie, could you remove them from that surface and tell me if they work in VP9.09? I usually do this in FS tables so I can see under the bumpers, it makes them higher visually and doesn't effect the Hit event for me.

You know, I'll need to go and check that. I just looked at them visually on my machine. I never thought about them being just point adders. It makes sense though. smile.gif

Thanks Freddie. Don't save the table that way as I used those surfaces for other things. I think the 25h is for the plunger height. This must be a conspiracy. smile.gif Maybe I'll DL VP9 next week, but right now I need a break.

I just now checked this. They are just scoring standup leaf switches, I never even gave that a thought. I played many a table back in the day, but not so much in the last 25 years. I will fix that later today and reupload. Thanks UW!

I did the same thing on black pyramid, and then when I bought one and brought it home I was like wait, those aren't slings
