I have been wondering about image size for a while now, when I use to run one of JP's tables on my original 1080p machine it looked good then when I switched to a 4k monitor it looked great, it was the same table image but the resolution change made the difference, my question would be if you are running at 4k, at what point does the image size just become overkill in that the eye wouldn't even see a difference.   Running at 64bit gives the available memory, but I would think there would be a point that image resolution would max out for the standard size playfield monitor.

I use the same settings and they seem to work fine for my two computers, a desktop one with a RTX 3080, and a portable with an Intel Iris graphics. I have no problems running on the desktop, all tables play fine at 144hz, but on the portable the VPW tables are more cpu hungry and while I get 60Hz for most tables, those VPW tables just get me between 25 and 40 fps. They are playable, but not great :)

I'd say that with an RTX 3080 you should be able to play every table fluidly at maximum settings, because otherwise there would be something wrong with either the PC setup or the table.

My GPU is a Radeon R9 380 4GB but I have the 'benefit' of playing at a relatively low resolution of 1280x960, which is why I can run some tables smoothly that probably would give me trouble at 1080p or higher.

I think that dimensions that reflect the object's screenspace when running are most sensible. 300x300 ball images are total overkill, for instance. If the images are good quality, they'll still look good at appropriate dimensions. That biggest and noisiest gadget in your PC can perform magic on images, so long as you don't have to hobble it just to get something running - turning-off AA and the like. Oversize images do little more than waste electricity.

In my opinion, higher refresh rate is much more important than higher resolution. I would rather play 1080p @ 120hz than 4k @ 60hz. 120hz or higher makes the ball movement much closer to what your eye sees when playing real pinball.

 

I have a 3060 and it can play all VPW tables at 1080p/120hz without any issue. For 2k or 4k at 120hz, I might need something more, like a 4070 Super.

 

Do you think i would benefit in upgrading to a more recent model with a better refresh rate? I see there are already some models with 360hz out there!

In my cabinet, I use frame pacing as well. I also utilize Max Framerate 0 and Max Pre-rendered Frames 0. This configuration ensures that my 4K 144Hz screen maintains a consistent 144 frames per second, resulting in exceptionally smooth gameplay (rtx 3080)

While Jp tables perform seamlessly on my laptop, VPW lacks a similar adjustment option.
