File Name: Taxi (Night Mod) VP916-FS

File Submitter: Aaron James

File Submitted: 02 Oct 2013

File Category: VP 9.x MOD Cabinet Tables (FULL SCREEN)

Author(s): JP Salas, Aaron James, Teppotee
Manufacturer: Williams
Year: 2013
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

This is one of my favorite night mods to date.
Thanks again to the one & only JP Salas for allowing us to mod his beautiful recreation.
Here are things that have been done:

  • Images/textures reworked and edited. (AJ)
  • lights redrawn in editor. (AJ)
  • apron redrawn (AJ)
  • physics reworked (flipper/table/plunger) (AJ)
  • x/y and layback values changed from JP's original. (AJ)
  • Removed any "mystery score" lighting boxes from playfield. (AJ)
  • Alpha ramp flashers added (Teppotee)
  • Brand new GI for the table (Teppotee)
*Special thanks to Teppotee for taking the time and helping me make this table even cooler looking.
He did an amazing job on the GI / Flashers on this one! He did better than I could have. Cheers!

With my analog plunger, a full plunger will get the ball between 10k-25k-50k, while a soft to medium plunger will get 100k or near.

Hope you all enjoy this.
Aaron James

Thank you , Aaron. I love night mods. If I have a choice of regular or NM, it's NM every time. This table is really fun but can be really frustrating. I just played probably 25 games and finally I got a decent one where I could get on the scoreboard. So many down the center drains! But when you can pull a good game off on this table, it's very exciting. Gotta get those ramp shots down for sure!

Big shout out to Teppotee. This table would not have been the same if he didn't help out.
It's fun collaborating with other members. Makes the load lighter.
Glad you guys have liked it so far...

I have a couple of friends in my area that own a real Taxi pinball.
I tried to get this version to play as close to the real thing from my experiences.
Of course every table is different, but the ones I play on are freshly waxed, almost ready for a tournament.
Yes, it's probably harder than JP's original. Sorry ;-)

It's really really nice! Only one thing: The plunger is way too strong. I have only a digital one (key press) and when fully pressed the ball goes round and round and round in the funnel, at least 2 times until 100. Almost not possible to control this...

Easy way to correct this for your plunger is to set the friction in the backdrop part of the editor from .0019 ( if I remember correctly) to about .0022 to .0025 (your preference)
I had a feeling different plungers would act differently.

0.0025 helped a lot! But if a higher value slows down the speed the plunger can create I'll try to set it even higher. Thanx for the info!

No problem!
The lower you set the friction, the ball will spin in the cup forever! Haha
