opened the nanotech plunger kit pity they don't come with instructions had to find their web site and download the instructions which in my eyes are not so great because nothing about how to mount the small pcb in the cab , which way to mount it after 2 hrs still have not got it to work, does not work with all the tables in vp such an expensive piece of hardware with no support for newbees don't get me wrong not complaining just hard to sort something out without instructions included in the package

I didn't pack the manual?!

I'll get you the PDF. Sorry about that! There's two different manuals for some reason.

facepalm.gif

As far as mounting, it depends on how your cab is setup. Here's how we do ours ...

Under the apron ...

With apron in place at the top with plunger ...

I'll have the PDF a little later today. If I can't get it ASAP, I'll scan the manual for you page by page.

Got some problems with the motion plunger aswell
1. it took 7 weeks to get here.....

You didn't get it from me.

2. Installed it wire J4-8 missing pfff *exit game).

You mean the wire was missing from the harness? If so, you can take a needle and push in and up to remove one from an unused button and slide it into the 8 position. It'll 'click' when seated.

3. Plunger not recognized in future pinball.

I really haven't messed with it in FP, sorry. I suspect it needs to be enabled in the configuration menu?

4. When i exit the table....backglass stays on.

You need the modified FP Launch from the HyperPin forum.

5. Reset button not working aswell

I've never used the reset button. Not even sure it does anything in VP anyway.

I saw another post about the motion board and not using it with key encoders, and I was a little confused about that.

I don't know what key encoders mean. Is it the software or another board?

Is it possible to run a motion board together with an Ipac board?

I ask because I want to connect more than 16 switches. (Overkill, I know) Among them the 7-8-9-0, and coin door.

Thanks

You can use software like Joy2Key or XPadder, but you don't want to use them in conjunction with [ESC].

I suppose I made a blanket statement in the other post, but I intended to stress [ESC], sorry.

I think when they have said "encoders" they mean a hardware based keyboard encoder, like the IPAC.
I have both an IPAC and the Nanotech plunger kit installed in my cab because I use it for both virtual pinball and for playing MAME arcade games. I haven't encountered any issues - Yet.

If you look in the PDF, you'll see all the buttons as they are hardcoded. Some are not used by VP, and can be reassigned using Xpadder or similar programs.

You won't need nudge buttons with the kit, since it has an accelerometer for nudging.

You can simply recompile the FPLaunch to set them however you like.

OK I'm back after a break from work plus Noah found a silly error for me. Now I got this plugged back in and a question here... during calibration. We are supposed to tip the cabinet forward, backwards, left, right and jiggle it around. How much do we tip the cabinet? I find that the ball hesitates, hangs or even wobbles when it is not supposed to plus my plunger works some of the times and then not. Another note... plunger is calibrated but pulling it does nothing.. it only recognizes if I push it forwards...what am I missing here? I often have to keep the keyboard at bay so I can operate the plunger or exit a game. I'm trying to avoid using the my trusty iPac and make this work like it is supposed to. Plus I am using a RF wireless mouse if that has anything to do with messing with the accelerometer? Any suggestion would help a lot! Thanks in advance!

John

John, I tested your board, and it works fine. It's all in the calibration.

First of all, there's no way to tip your cabinet enough to calibrate it properly. We designed an apron that lifts out of the cab with the PCB attached to the underside for ease of calibration. Also, when setting up the plunger, be sure to pull it all the way out and push it forward when asked for the z axis. There are two such steps in the calibration process.

I think you gave me a helpful hint there. As for the plunger, it is pretty straight forward and as you say... pull it all the way out and all the way in when instructed. I did do that but will try again and look for anything else that maybe out. I trust you tested it and know it's gotta be me! biggrin.gif

Noah.... heh heh heh..that little tip of yours about not tipping it enough and how you tackle this your way solved a big chunk of my problem. What can I say? You da man! What I did was tip my cabinet and that was maybe an inch..ok obviously not enough so I used some low profile velco to quick fix my problem and velcroed the Mot-Ion in place. Moved it when I did the calibration but this time tipped the PCB from one end to the other end. Now the ball does not go wonky on me. The plunger I will work on next but I'm feeling good tonight smile.gif I feeling lucky. tongue.gif

Thanks again Noah... I should send you a red cape with the letters SN on the back!

Correction... "Super Noah" biggrin.gif just keep the Kryptonite at home ok boys and girls!

OK I got the plunger to work but not in all the games. All the good ones on my end like Tommy, Theater of Magic, Adams Family, Circus Voltaire etc do not like the digital plunger. Ones that do work is Bride of Pin Bot, Xenon, Hot Tip. Is there a setting I am suppose to know of? Should I bring out my iPac and mix the two? Seems to be a easy solution to me.

John

Back again and adding to this post. Connected JP4 Pin 1 (digital plunger) to a button and had it installed below the Mot-Ion plunger and this works. But would have been nice to have the actual mechanical plunger to do what it's supposed to do on some of these games but the accelerometer makes up for this. smile.gif I'm happy!

Hi John,

Some tables aren't yet configured to use the plunger.

The plunger button will work, when the table won't.

I have plans to mod a lot of tables, but my cab is currently undergoing some upgrades for the upcoming Chicago Expo.

Ahh.. thanks again Noah! At least I know know now and can give my head a rest! Over all I have to admit, buying the Mot-Ion from you is a MUST! After being spoiled from the way the virtual ball jiggles from shaking the cabinet or how the plunger work on many games... it really does make one smile! smile.gif

Here is a question for anyone else who got this tuned to perfection. When I exit a game in Hyperpin, it tends to hesitate (sometimes it doesn't exit at all). I'm used to my iPac... when I exit a game, it exit ASAP as if I were to hit the ESC key on the keyboard. But this is not happening with my Mot-Ion. It's not a serious thing since I have the keyboard handy below the cabinet...but would be nice if I get this tuned up like everyone else. smile.gif

PS Noah... Hope the Chicago show goes smooth for you!!!

John
