File Name: B2S Backglass Designer

File Submitter: jarr3

File Submitted: 13 Jun 2022

File Category: Frontends and Addons

A WYSIWYG application to create 'directB2S' backglasses.

What Stefan Wuehr ('Herweh') started in 2012 continues here.

Documentation is included in the download zip file as a htmldoc file, but can also be found online here

The B2S.Server wiki can be found here.

Have fun and please do not forget to like and review..., what is important for content creators (tables, backglasses, DMD colorization?)...
... is as important for us writing the tool-set

Toxie
In the change log, i do not see any mention of the 11th image import being fixed etc
I assume that was incorporated in this build?

Also, question
were the internal sounds for like the reel spinning removed entirely?

Toxie - Is this an essential update to 1.2?  I've used 1.2 for years without issue to alter the size/look of scoring displays.

Try importing your own reels or LED images in 1.2
and you will find that it does not import the 11th image aka the Blank image for when the display is not showing anything.

Can you do without it?
I imagine so, we have been for years by doing manual surgery to the directB2S files
but now you dont have to

To be honest, i have no clue at all about all that B2S stuff..  ;)

I just pick up what kind developers/testers like JockeJarre/Wiesshund throw at me (thus also the not-so-detailed changelog, sorry!!!).

Its definetly now the latest and greatest that Herweh released back then, plus some bugfixes (what Wiesshund mentioned, maybe more from Herweh, too).

Hello dear developer team,

I have made a test, and the sounds for wheel turns are still in the BG exports  :bye2: .

Another suggestion for future updates: an elegant reset routine for EM reels would be my dream ...... I tried to program that from the script, but I failed by my limited skills. But seen in principle it would be better to have such a routine in the BG like the turning of the wheels .... what is your opinion?

Nevertheless thank you for your efforts spent, greetings from Christian.

You could look at Jungle Queen
I think i have a reel reset in there you could re-use?

For feature requests/bugs, please try to contact jarr3 on the forum, as he's the current specialist for B2S issues..  :)

No need to be sorry, I believe the confusion.was because of a missing change log from me:

- Redo Westworld bugfix from 2017. Allow additional "empty" picture while importing reels. Export the "empty" reel into the XML file

- comment out the hardcoded sound loading. The last version committed from Herweh contained half finished code with hard coded sound files which make the exe fail on start. This is now on comment.

@Toxie, is it possible to add this to the change log of the updated download entry?

The version 1.2 from Herweh in 2016 stored in our repository, were still missing some bug fixes from Westworld. Version 1.26 containing these bug fixes (exe and source) were stored at https://vpuniverse.c...age-with-blank/ but are now missing since the beginning of this year. I created forum posts both here and in the other forum, but none could find the source of the fixes.

I managed to compare and reinvent the fixes on top of the 1.2 version. So version 1.27 should hopefully be exactly what 1.26 was, but with the only difference that we now have the source code in our repository.

So I now urge everyone who wants changes in the B2S Editor or B2S Server to download the source and try it out and support develop and compile it. It is actually really easy...

Can we finally get the source code into github ?? Preferably under VPinball account ?

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

I think we are in a good way of getting it there, but as you know, it is also "work" -> someone has to do it...

Both Toxie and Fuzzy are busy at work (their regular work...) but we should get it there eventually. Will keep you informed!

Quick follow up question after updating to Jarr3. Recently, some of my late 80's/early 90's tables like Space Station, Whirlwind, Raven, Rapid Fire etc. start the table and B2S but no scoring is showing on the backglass.  It is not all of these era tables, just some like the ones mentioned above.  I can add coins, start and play these tables with sounds but just no scoring shows up.

No amount of fiddling can get the scoring to show up on these B2S's unless I start altering to using "External .DLL" in VPinMame, and even then, some of the scoring displays seem to be cut off with some of the lines not showing the whole line of scoring text.

Has anyone had this happen and been able to pinpoint what caused the score to no longer display?  I am in the process of checking for newer/updated B2S's, but some of these backglasses have not been touched in years.

It seems that the old projects are not fully compatible with version 1.27,

I can open them but I cannot create the backglass, the program jams.

Is there any trick to making the backglass creation work, or do you have to create the project from scratch?

Hi, thanks for your testing, can you please give me info on which build you are using?

-> The one from github (yes there is a test build available there) or the 1.3.1.1 toxie released a couple of weeks ago?

The builds on github now include the git sha into file properties, so it is easy to recognize them. There should not be any difference between the two yet. Only that the github version is automatically built on each commit.

Hi, can you please give some hints which projects you have tested? Or maybe send an example as PM?

I need to check what's going on there.
