I reallllly am not diggin' they took away the 'peek' or 'hover' of the taskbar applications.  Farts.

And I miss the immediate access of Task Manager from the Taskbar. Gotta use CTRL+ALT+DEL now.

They did not, right click the start button itself

No it is there, it works

OH SNAP!  Pun intended! I'm going to check it out.  You're a real fucking peach, Wiess.  Love you.  (I really missed that feature, but it was so insignificant I brushed it off and moved on.)

Edited....I'm talking about Thumbnail Preview.  I may have said that incorrectly.  Now you have me on the hunt.

Do you mean folder thumb nail preview?
If so, yes, that is gone, at least for now.

I kind of get why they took it out, there were several valid reasons for sticking a knife in it
but there may be enough feedback, that it may return as an optional, but not forced, feature update some time in the future.

I assume you mean where you would look at a folder icon, and see like tiny thumbnails of a few of the items in said folder?

It was a neat feature, but at the same time had some glaring bugs that never seemed to be able to be eradicated over the lifespan of several windows versions

Another thing that i am pretty sure will make a return as an optional update is drag and drop to taskbar preview objects
grab file, drag to taskbar, point at icon for what is 4 running explorer windows, then point at the appropriate one to bring it to the front, then drop said file

Right now though for that, i snatch file, then win+tab or alt+tab to the window i want
mouse retains hold of the object i am dragging through the tabbing.

But i can not presently grab file, and drop onto notepad++ for example in taskbar, so i just grab the file and say Cortana, open notepad plus plus
she may as well earn her spot on the PC since she got changed to an enterprise productivity tool and had her consumer features removed, like having her play music
and stuff from the media library, guess no sammiches either :(

Yep.  Same.  Only caveat is I work Virtually and use Google Remote Desktop....I love it overall compared to TV, but fuck if it hates alt-tab.  I had gotten used to just hovering to choose a window or close one entirely if I had multiple folders open for instance.  I can use the application preview and like you I get why they ditched it, but the miss is strong.

Well, they are getting a lot of feedback, from me anyways

from a productivity stand point, because maybe they will view that more seriously than "Yo, i wan dis cool schizzle"

for someone managing many open windows, being able to at least grab something, poke an active taskbar icon and point at which preview window you and to be dropping said thing into, so that said window comes to the forefront it super useful.

I get that while literally dropping onto the taskbar did sometimes cause some messed up things to happen to some people (i never had it happen but i know sometimes explorer could get confused depending on the app and fall all over itself) but simply points and implying show me what instances of this thing are open
Oh ok bring this one i am pointing at to the foreground, is basically just a 1 handed version of alt tabbing, not much can go awry there.

There are some things i know i wont get back, just have to move on.
I was maybe one of the few people that actually used Cortana a lot.

I even took the time to read MS Docs on how to write custom commands for her.
I used her a lot when working where i can not reach my personal laptop cause it is sitting back on the desk and i dont wanna type stretched out like that

I would have her go find me and then bookmark me stuff that i know i will forget before work is over, or open virtually anything for me, go open a specific video or music file

i even taught her how to open a vpx file to edit, had to make her a command named vpxedit and add the tables folder to my documents library so she could find them

Now she is chopped down to basically an office 365 enterprise assistant
meetings, todo lists, email and find office docs

I get it, all this 3rd party support, 0 3rd party effort in making it consistent and 0 effort in updating to keep compliant, when the info was available to 3rd party devs Well ahead of any changes being released and other issues.

Oh well, fun while it lasted, she started as a toy, grew up to be useful, and then died

I dont use google remote desktop really, so i know little about what it likes to do and does not, i have used it very few times
i use windows normal RDP, SCCM, or VNC for work because that is what they use, for use at home i usually just use RDP as on a local network speed is of 0 concern

those dont give alt tab fits, win tab on the other hand, not so much

The new grouping feature though i have been making use of when i have a number of things going on, it makes up a little for the lack of preview hovering
i just poke the group and can have up to 4 nicely arrange windows per screen

And you can address one of those windows as an individual and have it go full screen, but then pick the group out of the taskbar again

and poof it is windowed in the group

If you feel the need to empty your wallet in my direction, i dont have any way to receive it anyways

If you really want to get rid of money you can donate to this
