Hello all!
Im working on getting my SSF all properly set up. I've set up VPX for 7.1, configured the speakers as per MJR's guide, but it seems like most of my table sounds are still coming from the backbox speakers unless I manually set it in the sound manager.
Is that normal/standard? I'd prefer to have no table sounds at all from the back box, but most tables seem to default to it.

I did indeed, audio is set to 7.1 (not enhanced) and for sounds like the ball, it works great (as long as the table has proper audio fade set up. I've added it to other tables that didn't.) Or for things I've manually adjusted in the sound manager.
For testing I've been using Medieval Madness and Haunted House, since those are the tables I'm most familiar with in real life.

And on Medieval Madness did you get table sounds from the table?
Not all tables will have SSF, though at this point almost all do. But they don't all implement it the same way or to the same extent.
Some good test tables are: AC/DC, Attack from Mars, Indiana Jones Pinball Adventure, Laser Wars. If those sound right, you should be good to go. If not, you may have a configuration issue.

I'll give those a shot tomorrow. Some of them I already have. I know many of them have SOME support for it since I tested with the backbox speakers off, but I'm still new enough at this to assume I'm just doing something wrong, haha.
(And thanks for the suggestions/help!)

I'd also say, don't over think this. There probably won't be 100% separation between backbox and table sounds. Make sure it's working. Use the Windows utility for your sound card to test all the exciters. Then play some of the test tables I suggested. After that, try to forget about it.
IMO, that's when SSF is at it's best. When you forget it's there and it just feel like you're playing pinball.
When I first setup my SSF, I got it all dialed in and had my wife play her favorite table (Adams Family). She was enjoying it, but I could tell she was sort of humoring me about the SSF. Finally, she admitted she couldn't really tell what I was talking about.
I was kind of crestfallen. Then I had an idea. I turned the SSF off and had her play again with the sound only coming from the backbox. She noticed the difference immediately and hated it. To me, that's perfect. Good SSF is like good movie special effects, if you notice them, they aren't very good. SSF should just make your cab feel like you're playing pinball. If you get there, you're set.

Hi guys,
I have SSF setup with EQAPO / Peace, Thump, and PinVol. All work great and you can really "feel" the difference.
However, the old EM tables are really loud compared to others. So loud in fact, that PinVol can't turn them down far enough to match the others.
Is there an easy way to set an emulator for all the VPX EM tables in Thump? or do you need to add all the tables one by one into the presets?
Thanks

You should start your own topic rather than attach a new question to an unrelated thread.
That said, to my knowledge there is no way to do that. Thump allows you to set presets for each emulator (VPX, FX3, FP, etc.) but not for types of tables. I don't think there's any way to trick it into thinking you're using a different emulator.
If you have follow up questions, please start a new thread.

The SSF enhanced 7.1 mode should move all the SSF sound out of the backbox and onto the exciters, normal 7.1 you will hear more table sounds out of the backbox. It was that exact issue which prompted me to add the SSF enhanced 7.1 mode. I haven't looked at VPX 10.7 final to see if it still performs as expected. I am trying to clean up my gameroom and install a new amp for my backbox so maybe I can check it out soonish and see how its currently working. JP's attack from mars and star trek the next generation were my main test tables.

From what I've learned in my short time loading/testing tables some are better than others. Ac/dc is one of the best I've found so far.
The one thing I've found is that my volume levels are playing a big factor in things. I need my windows volume cranked for the ssf to work really well then have to turn down the backbox amp to adjust it all out.
I belive pinvol cab get with that but I'm waiting on my glass to come in before attempting to address volume issues.

Hello again all! I haven't forgotten about this or your answers (all of which are appreciated!)

This is pretty good advice, and ultimately where I'm at. I've tested my sound setup as fully as I can, and I'm just... enjoying it as is, as much as is possible. As mentioned in one of your other posts, some just work better than others. If I love a table and its SSF is poor I can just... manually adjust it myself and be happy.

Ahh, so THAT'S what enhanced is. I'd been wondering. I think it seems to help a little? It doesn't fully move table sounds out of the backbox based on my latest testing (using a recent ACDC Luci release, along with TOTAN). Still, it seems to be better! I really should test more with attack from mars, I need more excuses to play that table more often.
Sorry for jumping in on your thread Aerokii and thank you Topper2k
S'all good, glad you got your answer!

Yeah, this is more or less what I've learned so far too. I think I lost a full day at least so far just to playing with volume levels between the cab and the backbox. At some point I think I'll just need to upgrade the speakers/amps, but I'll save that for when my artist finishes the cab artwork and I need to tear the whole thing apart to apply it anyway, lol.

Having trouble with Peace, still won't change the volume even though I change the sliders...Music is playing through all exciters and speakers in Windows 10...I can't figure this out. Also, can you have seperate Peace settings for different tables? Does it save per table like PinVol? Global and Table sliders are working, just not the SSF sliders.
Update: Peace is working. In Windows, I play a song and I can adjust the sliders and it controls the exciters and backglass speakers no problem. But, when I'm playing a table, I use PinVol to adjust the exciters and backglass speakers and I get nothing....

@Aerokii - I have weird issues when I disable either the center or sub channel in Windows. It seems to confuse Windows which channel to send sounds. Stuff you expect to only go to one speaker starts going to multiple speakers. (e.g. Right surround comes out of Right Surround AND Front Right). I had to leave center and sub channels enabled in Windows, even though my USB sound device has nothing plugged into that output. Unfortunately, I don't get music/callouts from backbox speakers on some tables now, so I'm troubleshooting that currently.

Several mentions that AC/DC is a good rest table. I'm testing with it and find I don't get the bell or the train sounds as nicely as when I just had 2.1 backbox on.
Any suggestions? I haven't pulled apart the table sounds to see where they are supposed to come from. A little bit beyond me yet.
