I'm not a vp master or know if this is a good idea or is implemented ... but could a check about material could be implemented? I mean, when you save or close a project could a box saying you have X numbers of default materials left. That way no default pink will be lost forever lol

You can always hit CTRL SHIFT E to select elements (or from the menu), and in the window you can always see which elements doesn't have a material set, and you can select them and then you can change their material. Much better than a report when you close the table :)

Small Bug: The default table (when you click new) has 2 sub calls for LeftSlingShot.. the first one is most likely a cut/paste error.

Sub LeftSlingshot_Slingshot()
PlaySound "fx_bumper4",0,1,-0.15,0.25
End Sub

Short question: May I copy vpx and the vps-scripts in the folder of my existing vp 990 installation? I read about downward compatibility.

Or do I have to use a separate folder?

And do I need a second mame installation, too?

Thanks to everyone who contributes to this very cool project.

You can copy it to the same folder you already have 990 installed into

To all the people with problems loading vpinmame or the core.vbs:

The scripts should be unzipped in the scripts folder, NEVER in the tables folder. Not that it is bad in itself, but then you'll need to copy those scripts all over your folders which contain tables. I have many folders with tables, vp6, vp7, vp8, vp9, vp9.9 tables, vpinmame tables, older tables, original tables, my tables, my older tables, other authors tables, wip tables, forgotten tables, etc :). Only very old tables required the scripts to be in the same folder, but those tables are older than my time as an author, and I started building tables 10 years ago :) So please, make sure you have a folder called Scripts, and unzip the scripts in there. That's all you need.

Problems loading vpinmame can be due to other things, like the table author setting a b2s, ultravp or dof as the default in the tables script (or any other older vpinmame variation), instead of vpinmame. And if you haven't that installed, then you will get the default error that the table can't find the script and cannot load vpinmame. So if you only use vpinmame you'll need to change the line that loads vpinmame controller.

@fuzzel or @toxie
I think a bug is causing desktop backdrop scoring not to show? Very strange two different desktops dual displays on each score lights not showing up but on cab it works fine. Weird or what?

Hmm do you have a test table or can you explain what you exactly do to reproduce it?

I have a question about collisions on primitives.  I was trying to make a prim collidable, then move it with script and have it be collidable during the move steps or at least be collidable in the new position.  But in my testing, although the primitive does move, the collision still happens at the original location only.   Is this functionality that can be added?

Thanks

-Mike

Sorry not in this version. The collision detection for custom primitives can be quite hefty doing that each frame would have a big impact on the FPS

So if you only use vpinmame you'll need to change the line that loads vpinmame controller.

In addition to that:

Make sure that when you copy a new VPinMAME from the VPM alpha/beta thread, to -always- run setup.exe and press Install there again.

Also (just to make sure), press Setup Defaults, see if something new has been added and tweak it to your liking.

ill send you a pm to table.

Add me too, please. I fiddled a lot with the BG elements lately, so i might spot something.

Is there a resource/webpage that talks about the 3d shading properties used in the VPX material manager?

its roughly based on the disney-material-model/BRDF-parameter-mapping (and then even more simplified), which is also kinda used in UE4: https://docs.unreale...ased/index.html

(there are even more links on the bottom)

If Disney released a cheap Ink and Paint for general non commercial use, it would not use materials. I don't know of any user editors, game makers, or construction sets that use materials, they are just to complicated. You have to have the resource, and knowledge to create them, to be able to use them in anything other than a charity based hand me down way.

I'm not saying VPX should not use materials. But it certainly should be able to let you simply give something a color, have a 'don't rape the image' material, or come with a fully documented material creator/editor.

Thanks JP! I swear there was a reason I put them into the tables folders, but I don't know why.  Really glad you pointed out that little boo boo. :facepalm:
