I would say: try and see...
Other options I always use in VPX:
- OFF: post processed AA (disabled), this blurs the textures
- ON: brute-force 4x SSAA
WOW. All this time, I had never thought to try turning that OFF. And it's like getting a pair of glasses! Huge improvement! Thanks!
Interesting. After I disabled post processing AA I did notice that the tables did look clearer. However enabling brute-force 4x SSAA introduced some stutter. I have a pretty good video card. Any idea why this might be?
What video card do you have? I think brute force is effectively making the table 4k so you do need a very beefy card. Unfortunately brute force is the only way to get rid of the awful jaggies, especially on ramps. I really hope VP dev fixes this eventually.
Haha Dutch and water ;-)
Looking really nice and you give vpx a new future. Compare this to the TPA ramp that one looks like crap now haha
Haha, I played TPA for the first time in months this week (on my iPad, on a flight). The amazing work of Flupper and others has definitely FAR surpassed FarSight. TPA looks so basic now. The only exception being overall sharpness (see above comment about jaggies).

I have a Nvidia GTX 1080.
I run tables from desktop view. I am trying to find what I find less objectionable.
Disabling post processing makes tables look sharper, but without brute force enabled there are some jaggies. But running with brute force introduces stutter. But I am a little surprised I am seeing stuttering with that video card.

HaHa, Awesome!! That pic reminds me of the days when LCD monitors first came out and it looked like you could just grab the icons right off the screen, LOL! Awesome work man, this will def. be a winner!!

@TNT2, I also had this problem and I'm using a beefy GTX980. I resolved it be setting the FPS Limiter (within the table settings) to mirror the native refresh rate of the TV, so in my case I set it to 60. I used to be able to run at -1 or even 1 without any trouble, but throughout the numerous VP and NVidia updates things got out of sync at one point. For whatever reason keeping it at 60 now runs buttery smooth for me, and that's maxed out without Exclusive Fullscreen.

Exclusive fullscreen sounds great, except it introduces other issues I cannot put up with, including having to set ddraw=0 (among others)
(2-screen cab user here, but even with 3-screens I suppose this can be a no-go since you cannot set the DMD size to match your screen size)

Awesome. Thanks. I used to leave it at -1. Sounds like it's time for a change.
So you do that and enable brute force settings?
Yes, turn brute-force 4X SSAA ON.

So I did some informal testing.
I played a bunch of different tables using my previous settings.
Resolution: 2560x1440
Anti-Aliasing: Quality FXAA
Ambient Occlusion: Enabled and Update in-game
FPS Limiter/Vsnyc: -1
Force Anisotropic Texture Filtering (quality)
Max Texture Dimension: Unlimited
Elements Detail Level: Slider far right
I averaged 300-350fps
I used the same settings with the exception of disabling Anti-Aliasing and checking Brute Force 4x SSAA
I averaged 140-150fps
I also tried changing the FPS limiter to 60 frames max (monitor refresh rate)
Both of the latter tests I perceived some stutter. Could be the placebo effect but it did seem noticeable compared to the settings I was using previously.
Oh and I tried using force exclusive fullscreen per flupper's recommendations but it would always crash tables.

Sounds like you're running VPX on a 2K monitor which means you're pushing nearly twice as many pixels as I am at 1080p, so your GPU may in fact be working much harder than mine. The GTX1080 should be powerful enough to run even at 4K, so it might be just a matter of optimizing your driver settings.

it doesn't really crash tables. You have to set DDRAW to 0 in the registry for the ROM, then it works. I recommend that, solved my stutter problems immediately for my GTX970 and a 4k TV.

Ok. So after reading through a thread posted earlier and using regedit, I decide to change the ddraw on one of my ROMs to 0 and enable force exclusive fullscreen. It's working fine so far. The only thing so far is the DMD window disappears (I am playing in desktop mode). Am I doing something wrong?
Sorry flupper. I am really not trying to derail your thread. White Water looks incredible. ![]()
