The directoutputXX.ini file is purely used by DOFLinx to load the colours, nothing else.  That is the extent of the relationship.

All mapping of your output devices is done in DOFLinx.INI with lines like

LINK_LF=1013

This means set the left flipper out for DOFlinx to connected output device #1 output port #13.  You can test your output devices using the right click menu in DOFLinx when you run it with DEBUG=1 somewhere in your DOFlinx.INI file.

The mapping for left and right flipper inpout for L-Shift and R-Shift is accomplished by

L_FLIPPER_KEY=A0
R_FLIPPER_KEY=A1
These keyboard keys are only monitored when you don't have a programatic link like is the case with FX3.

I hope this helps a bit.  If you have other questions just ask and let us know what you've tried and what your settings are now.

I forgot to quote you before to keep track of things.  Here's my original response.

Ok, thanks so much for clarifying things.

I've made a lot of progress.  In fact, only one thing isn't working now and there's only one thing I don't understand and am not sure of.

I've gone through the first post, line by line, setting up my INI file.

The very last paragraph calls for DOFLinxMSG to be set up in the front end with PinballX as an example.  I use Pinup Popper and don't know where to call DOFLinxMSG instead of just DOFLinx.exe.  Can you elaborate and help me figure out exactly what to do with the last paragraph on the first post of this thread, please?

The only other thing not working is the Pinup Popper menu itself.  I would like the left/right flippers' solenoids to activate when scrolling through the menu and would like the lighting to trigger and change colors for each table as one is scrolling through them using the flippers but I'm not getting anything at all when using the menu.

Thanks for your help with all this.

DOFLinxMSG is a utility to send DOFLinx messages. (You can use other tools to do this as well).  Its often used when you w3ant to send DOFLinx a message to process an interim INI (configuration) file to update your settings, ie FX3 to FP.  You can send DOFLinx command(s) or a command to process and INI file with DOFLinxMSG.  Using this utility in the "before" and "after" scripts from your front end menu allows you to control DOFLinx's behaviour down to the finest detail.

Thank you for explaining this.

I'm getting an error Key_To_Output out of range must be 1-14.  My Key_To_Output setting is 34,119 because that's what matches my hardware.  I understand the error is stating that's out of range, but I must not be understanding what it's wanting because that seems to be the correct setting to me.

Can you explain what this is for exactly and why I'm getting this error?

Thanks.

The number 119 is the device number AND the 119 is the port number

The device number is the order that DOFLinx is recognizing your hardware

If you run DEBUG=1 in the .INI File
Then Re-start DOFLinx, It will open up another window you can right click that to get a test menu

Slydog, not yet.  I was waiting for the Steam version before tackling it.  I must look at the current release schedule for that.

No log = no program start.  Try opening a command prompt and simply running DOFLinx.EXE then start to add complications like shortcuts, auto starting, etc.

OK, so you have the program starting.  Now its a question of it being pointed to valid configuration file, and of course having a valid output device.

Do you have a DOFLinx.INI file setup relevant to this machine?

Where is the DOFLinx.INI file located? (ie path)

Have you created a shortcut with the command line argument to point to the INI file location, OR, is the INI file simply in the same folder as the EXE file?

What output device do you have, ie Pinscape, LEDWiz, etc?

the DOFlinx.ini is still setup for the other machine.(i will do that today.)
it's locate in the directoutput folder.
i dont thin ki got the command line setup yet.(i will do that today.)
I want to keep this simple this time, just want to output the sound to speakers or excitors. it's an other mother board. 2.1.

so i shouldnt worry about the error that pop up when exit fx3? i want to make sure that's not going to be the problem before trying to get the ini setup.

For the moment don't worry about an error at exit. Until you have a valid config file it will be some old setting that's just not relevant anymore.

Thanks,
