I used the wrong characters in the lampshow. Too rapidy-flashy, but I have since changed it. Time to try out some variants!

I just heard about your project today on Pinside, reading through this thread was a real thrill.  I dreaded getting to the last page as it meant I would now have to wait patiently for updates instead of being able to gobble it all up at once lol.  You have something unique and incredible here, I wasn't able to find the virtual table to play (I'll look harder) but just from the artwork this is a machine I would absolutely buy in real life if you ever decide to produce it for sale!

Hey guys!  I can't tell you how impressed I am with this project.  Each and every update is so excitinng, and it's a lot of fun to see it come together.  Talking about the technical details with the team is super fun too.  :)

I hope y'all won't mind if I address the P-ROC / pinmame / VP stuff real quickly.  It's partially on topic as it might result in this code being playable in VP, but if somebody wants to move it to a separate topic and send me a link, I'll be happy to discuss it there (or via PM/email).

P-ROC is not rom based (only old hardware is because it was designed to run very simple dedicated hardware)these days its just cheaper to use a pc so roms are not needed any more.

To get P-ROC code to run in vp(if i read the other thread correctly, only scanned it) You run the P-ROC code as is (python) And it talks to vp through a special version of the pinMAME.dll that talks to the python.

No roms / emulation involved. Your basically running the source, using pinMame as a middle man between P-ROC and vp.

What you want to do (play the new python WOOLY code in VP) is possible, but there's a bit of confusion about pinMame's role here.

PinMAME is used to emulate the hardware of original pinball machines so that original ROMS could be run through it.  A couple of us modified pinMame's source code to add in P-ROC hardware support so that original game ROMs could be run through a P-ROC to control REAL pinball machine hardware.  This is useful if you have a real game and are using a P-ROC to write custom code.  You can still run original game code on your machine (via pinmame) even after you swap the original CPU board with the P-ROC.  While this is cool (VERY COOL), it has nothing to do with custom game code written in Python / pyprocgame.

Visual Pinball is the graphical system (and physics engine?) that allows you create virtual recreations of existing pinball machines (and new ones).  PinMAME talks to VP via a COM interface so that original ROMs can be played via pinMAME on the virtual tables.

pyprocgame is the python pinball game framework we wrote that most people use to write custom game software for their P-ROC based machines (customs and re-themes).  Note, pypcogame / python are not the only options for programming new game code for the P-ROC (though it is the most mature and most popular).  Others are using C/C++ and C#/.NET, and at least one person wrote a java P-ROC interface.  Oh, and python programs CAN be distributed as compiled binaries... they compile into .pyc files at runtime and should work without the original source code.  (Whoever said the P-ROC is for hobbyists only and not commercial manufacturers was incorrect.  In fact, the P-ROC will serve as the control system for a number of new commercial products soon.)

I wrote a rudimentary COM interface for pyprocgame so that pyprocgame could interface to Visual Pinball.  This means you can connect your python code directly to Visual Pinball (not through PinMAME).  The implementation is here, and it works (mostly) - at least I got my custom JD python code working with VP (video).  Since it's open-source, I'm hopeful somebody will someday improve it and make it more robust.

As always, feel free to contact me with any questions.

Quick update - custom CNC'd plastics came in, attached the high quality art and are installed.  Custom made ramp guards as well to protect those ramps as best as possible.  Playfield is nearly complete now (minus the flashers which will be implemented after expo along with some other cosmetic stuff).  Hopefully will be stuffing this baby into the cabinet this weekend.

Also, for anyone interested in buying a Wrath of Olympus translite, just send me a PM.  $100+shipping (or if you're going to Expo you can pick them up there for free!).

Hope to upload a decent game play video soon too.  As of now we have all four monster and god modes programmed, a couple hurry up modes, kick-back, and pandora's box.  Really quite a bit considering coding didn't really start until a couple months ago...

As for a VP update with DMD... we'll have to see what happens in the coming months.

You sir are extremely talented!  :otvclap:  :dblthumb:

Did you work for any major pinball companies prior to your VP project and VP to reality build?

I WISH I had a job at one time working for a pinball company.  That would have been cool....  I've been doing product development for the past 15 years though and a lot of those design/fabrication/reverse engineering skills have sure come in handy on this project though!

Wow, sum of the parts is wicked. Amazing how much different the plastic looked on the cnc versus the machine.
