TerryRed said. Do you have everything running as Admin...and are you on Win7? Some have said that setting Pup, to Wn2000 compatibility helped them. Seems most people with issues tend to be Win 7 users.

Im in pretty much the same boat as Iain1986 describes above with the exception that I was able to get the videos to display during a game just one time. It took me a while to realize that the one screen was the topper and the other was the BG video...I was so excited cause I fiddled with this for hours yesterday with no luck. I cant figure out what I did differently to make it work earlier this morning. Then I closed out the table and resized the screens and dragged them to where I wanted them. Then upon relaunching the table I havent been able to get the videos to display again......what the? How can it work once and never again...that makes no sense at all. In the screen configuration settings I have the pop ups enabled.....also tried all the different driver options, when it did work the one time the driver was set to the default setting.

A couple of questions here....how do I set the PuP to Wn2000 compatibility as Terry mentions above? maybe thats the answer as I am on Win 7.

Also, Im not 100% sure I have the videos installed correctly, I have them here:
C:\Visual Pinball\Tables\PinUPPlayer\PUPVideos\Tron_Legacy. When I pasted the PuPvideos into the Tron_Legacy folder do I just paste the complete folder of videos there as is or do I remove each individual video folder that is within the PuPvideo folder and place it inside the Tron_Legacy folder ?

This is truly the next big thing in VP.....I can see that in the right hands what magic is in store for us down the road.....a big thank you to TerryRed and Nailbuster for this awesome program and table mod.....this is big!

Do you have everything running as Admin...and are you on Win7?  Some have said that setting Pup, to Wn2000 compatibility helped them.   Seems most people with issues tend to be Win 7 users.

Omg finally! Thats it! I am runing Win7 and set PinupPlayer.exe to run in Windows XP Service Pack 3 compatibility mode and that seems to make it work now!
Only thing I notice is the first video that plays on the table is delayed a bit before showing, i've disabled Topper videos so I only see Backglass ones and usually its a full screen black image appears when the video "triggers" but then the video doesn't actually appear for a couple of seconds.
After that, all further videos play instantly, no black screen

Otherwise its working perfectly!
I suggest maybe adding the compatibility issue to the troubleshooting steps for Windows 7 users.

Congratulations on getting it to work.......Im thinking that this is my problem as well.
Im unsure how to make the settings change as you mention in the first sentence of your post.....can anyone help me out with that?

Right-click on each PinUp Player   EXE file, choose Properties, and then Compatibility TAB. In there somewhere you can choose what version of Windows compatibility you want.   (It's been years since I used Win 7).

It's normal for the very first video to have a 0.5 sec delay.  Maybe that delay is different for each person's system depending on speed,etc..

Thanks for the info TerryRed....setting compatibility to windows service pack three worked for me as well. This is really slick....thanks again for your help and to you and Nailbuster for sharing this incredible leap forward in VP.

Now back to the table to spend some serious time with this......

All i can say is :love39:

I was away for 2 weeks but able to read about this great addition.  So now other than Terry's table are we going to share our video clips? If so where?  I have a few ideas i want to work on for Star Trek, and oh man The Walking Dead will be a great candidate

Try playing with PuPB2S.  See what you can do. It's quite easy to work with, and to do simple "this trigger plays from this playlist under this condition" types of video playback. Figure out what Triggers / solenoids / switches / lights the table has that you want to use for triggering video playback. Then get a bunch of video clips to use for testing. I used 1 or 2 videos for each "action / playlist" to start. Then when things starting working I would add more and more, and then fine tune the conditions from there.

My Tron PuP table "mod", was NOT done with a PuPB2S and is not for the faint of heart.  :)  Just take a look at all the "PUP_" related code I had to do to get it to work with Jackpot videos, and the different modes, and MB,etc...  This table is complicated with being able to have multiple modes and MB at once, but it also had the ramp colours and PF MB lights that helped out.  Many tables won't have that kind of lighting that was required to get this to work to this extent.

Any reason you did it that way instead of using the PuPB2S system?

Any reason you did it that way instead of using the PuPB2S system?

It’s just the nature of dealing with PinMAME rom tables. VPX and B2S has no way of knowing that a light is “blinking” or “ON” or “OFF”.  They simply “react” to whatever state the rom sends (on / off), and the rom can be changing that many times per second. (Whereas on FP, and maybe VP original you can use Light States to control anything)

So if I hit a trigger and wanted to play a video based on a certain light being on...if the light that was “blinking” isn’t on at that exact moment, then it won’t work. I had this same issue when trying to have the neon ramps trigger addressable led colours to match the table. By the time the trigger would happen, the light state or neon ramp colour would either be off (no trigger) or constantly changing (lots of triggers).

So that’s why I did my code the way I did. I basically would monitor all the PF lights, and neon ramp colours, in real-time, and create a “bank” for each one. If its blinking then each time its ON I would add +50 (or whatever was needed) to the bank, and if its Off I would subtract a smaller amount from the bank (to allow it to stay positive for a “blink”).  I would also set a max + and max – so the values could be controlled within reason and need timing. If its always On or Off well then the values get maxed out + or - either way.

Then when I would trigger a PUP event, I would check the “bank” of the required light and neon ramp colour to do part of the controlling. However this part REQUIRES the use of Timers as well to make it all sync up for certain conditions to work. So I would need to “delay” the “bank check” of the lights and conditions needed by 100ms up to 3500ms, depending on the trigger and event.

Since I only had the lights of that table to go by....  in terms of “multiball is lit”, “jackpot”, and specific videos for certain modes on the same ramps or orbits....well without Timers and “light banking”, those parts would be impossible with just B2S / DOF trigger conditions that you use for PuPB2S. I have the same limitation when doing DOF MX Leds for VPX.

With FP or an original VP or EM table, it must be done by the script so it doesn’t matter anyway, and you have more control.

I got a chance to play around with this tonight and it is pretty awesome! The topper videos looked great on my apron LCD and the backglass videos are really great. I was confused for a bit because my backglass kept going black but I realized that I need to switch the Backglass to not always display. It all plays great now. Installation was easy, I only needed the readme files, didnt need the video though Ill take a look at it to see if I missed anything.

So many good games out there with a ton of good quality videos available. Indiana Jones and the Shadow are two with new VPX versions that would look great and as mentioned TWD is a natural along with AC/DC and the video footage available for them... though Im not sure if their content would look as good as it isnt likely 1080p.

Ive got my Blu Ray collection ripped to mkv and could probly chop up some video to be used... just need more time in the day :) no idea where you find the time Terry!

Glad it's working good for you. Would love to see a video of how it looks in your cab!

I'm enjoying having time to do this now. I'm between a few projects.... but this Tron mod took on a life of its own as I didn't originally plan on it being a full blown SLAMT1LT-like VPX version.

I also have my movie collection ripped to MKV, so I have lots of material to choose from!

I am having the same issues some of the windows 7(im running of an imac and bootcamp cannot install windows 10) users have had.  And I just cannot seem to breakthrough...

I have tried changing compatibility of the .exe and bat files to windows xp (service pack 3) and windows 2000.

I have all the files running as administer.

I have the latest b2s installed. sam build and vp 10.4 installed.

I have all displays set under pop up and to change display to fit display size.

I am in windowed mode and do not have exclusive mode checked.

I run a 2 screen cabinet mode but am just trying to get this going in desktop mode because iI thought it would be easier to try different things to get things going (i currently am just trying junk yard in the same manor as the you-tube video by just placing the screens in each corner). I originally tried the tron pup table.

The b2s goes to full screen on the table start just using the vp10.exe and the dmd is in the lower corner.

The drivers are installed and visible when i right click on the b2s.

as for making sure the .dll files are unblocked i cannot tell.  i right click and go to properties and there is no block or unblock option.(maybe they are blocked and I do not know it and cannot change it)

any info or ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Not sure what i am doing wrong,.. The Tron table looks amazing and I would love to get this working.

Thanks in advance for any advice on troubleshooting!

Tron Legacy, PuP Edition , PMD 1.1

- TerryRed: added SetScreenex commands to table script for Backglass and Topper. This will configure both the Backglass and Topper for PinUp Player to be forced to "PopUp enabled" (just for this table) regardless of what the default settings are.

- RustyCardores: Surround sound mod, new sounds added (where there were none)

- DJRobX: Updated physics and code to bring table inline with VPX 10.4 routines. ROM-controlled GI and PWM flasher support. Prettier Ball.

- HauntFreaks: File size optimization

- included two POV files for desktop view (High and Low)

Table can be found in the usual place.

great update....but there are now the two small issues with this VPX version overriding the default PinUP settings that people need to be aware of.  I would suggest table authors NOT override defaults using SetScreeneX.

#1>  some users with 2 screens only want to use the BG videos and hide the topper screen.  With the latest PinUPPlayer they just set 'hide always' on their PuP topper screen and any/all PuP tables won't show any toppers.  Now using this table,  they are going to have Topper videos pop-up regardless of their default settings.  They are going to think PuP is broken,  but now we'll have to tell them to modify the script to take out the setScreenEx override line.

#2>  If someone initially sets their BG screen to always on (user error, most people would want this POP-UP)....they run this Tron and all seems ok.  Next PuP table they run BG stays on always and they think PinUP is broken....but it's just delaying the inevitable, they have to configure their PuP screens defaults properly.

I originally had this mindset, but regardless of me telling everyone in v1.0 that they NEED to enable PopUP by default for both BG and Topper (i said this in the zip file, web site install instructions, everywhere really), they still didn't understand it and set it up wrong  :)  Either way it ends up with some confusion, and I've learned we will never make everyone happy.  :(

That being said, it would be good for everyone to know the difference between their default settings, and the fact that each table can have a per-table setting for their PuP screens by script, or by PuPB2S. Since some people may create their PuPB2S differently than others, or mod their PuP tables differently, its kind of essential information to know from the beginning.

I did mention in the 1.1 update notes for the table about adding the setscreen and what it does, but I will get around to noting that they can disable that if they wish, and how.

It really comes down to everyone knowing what they want for their "default", and in a PuP modded table's case (and possibly others in the future), you just comment out that one line, so you don't need to change your default settings.

It was the same with UltraDMD when newer tables use an option that allows for custom size and location per table that is different than the default. You need to change it in the script for your setup.

If I may slide in here, in re: PUPB2S:

IMO, based on what I've been able to do and improve on my learnings here: (PUP2B2S for DE Batman, see earlier post/youtube video) I don't think this tool should be should sold short because it is actually pretty effective as is** with some clever 'art direction' and an understanding that even fancy modern machines are, as far as triggers and lamps and things go...(state) machines. They are set with intent and reason, so understanding them lets one do conditional programming, and Dave has already added some pretty standard, and nifty/powerful stuff:

- Single conditional statement (if x == n then)

- Multiples (if x == && y == m then)

- Booleans (0/1)

- Counters (I haven't even started with those yet)

- Prioritization/flow control

Really, I think adding an 'else-like' behavior (Right now, tests L12=1 do a thing if they pass. We need a 'if they don't pass, do this instead' for added flexibility') and a way to reset a counter on an entity (L27=1,anEntitycounter = newValue) and there is a LOT of room to do things without changing/adding code to people's tables.

I realize that in an optimal world, "table authors" will see the value and jump on it but...yeah :) Maybe, right? :)

Anyway, my Batman thing continues to improve as I make more art and master the mysteries of the blinkenlights :D

-K

**Caveat - I am not so sure the priority thing is working correct in the build I have...

As a general thing. It is very irritating as it takes a LOT of time to get things just the way you need them your setup only to find some table with practically every 'override' set... :/

My experience with this table and the blocked .dll files was discovered when I right clicked on the BG and the plugins box was not highlighted and I could not select it. Unblocking the two .dll files took care of this. Once you can click on plugins another screen will pop up ant tell you that everything is active(if all is working ok). This is shown in the YouTube video.
If you dont see any block or unblock choices when you right click propertieson the .dll files they are unblocked.

great update....but there are now the two small issues with this VPX version overriding the default PinUP settings that people need to be aware of.  I would suggest table authors NOT override defaults using SetScreeneX.

As a general thing. It is very irritating as it takes a LOT of time to get things just the way you need them your setup only to find some table with practically every 'override' set... :/

While I agree....this can go the other way as well.  With PuP, there are so many possibilities with what can be created., This isn't the same as "one size DMD should go in this position for all tables".  Not everyone will have a Topper, not everyone wants fullscreen backglass videos,etc..   I don't want it to be where you can only have backglass videos this way, or Topper videos that way, or DMD videos that size, or only having PopUp set,etc for ALL Pup creations.

For Tron, I made it specifically to work with PoP-UP enabled. That is how it is meant to be experienced. I originally didn't have the Pop-UP override enabled in V1.0, thinking everyone would read the clear instructions for setup for this table. The Technician in me should have listened to my instincts. Clearly MANY people don't read instructions, and there was alot of confusion. Having Pop-Up enabled with SetScreeneX would have eliminated some confusion, and would have forced people to look at their options in the table script. With everything we configure in these tables and cabinets, knowing how to comment out a couple of config lines (or change them as needed) in a table script should not be beyond the ability of anyone. Better to establish what your PuP "options" are from the beginning.

In the case of a PuP table "MOD", I think the "SetScreeneX" should be the "standard", as its the ONLY way to have a different "PuP screens" configuration that is unique on a per table basis.  Some PuP table MODS will want PoP-UP enabled for certain screens....others won't. Without "SetScreeneX" in the table script, the user has no way to set that for their unique setup...and will rely on the "default", which will confuse them if they have tables that use different methods of delivery.

In the case of a PuPB2S, this can also be confusing in the same way, and a PuPB2S creator can also have PoP-UP enabled for that specific PuPB2S.  The user however can easily change this in the PuPB2S Editor if they want. With a table "MOD", only SetScreeneX gives them this option that can be different from the default.

Better to educate everyone with the knowledge of setting up their PuP screen "defaults" the way they want....but also educating them in knowing that each PuPB2S can be unique, and each PuP table "MOD" can be unique....and this is how you can change it to suit your unique cabinet setup.

You will never EVER make an all in one setup / config for all PuP creations that will make "everyone" happy with their specific setup. Better to educate them on their "options". If someone can put in the effort to download someone else's creation that took days / weeks to create....the least they can do is take a few mins to read and understand how PuP works. (if they have the documentation available with this info from PuP, or the table ZIP file).

Terry,

For me it is more about reducing friction and gaining adoption :)

The words "this table will change your settings because people don't RTFM" is kind of a 'brute force' way to Steward your Vision, yeah? Personally, I believe the default mode should be show video for specified duration then close it; you program the exceptions, not the common use case :D

It isn't about making *everyone* happy. "Advanced Users" are never satisfied, but that's fine because they have the means, will and mentality to twist all the knobs and flip the bits.

Most folks maybe just wanna play some P-Ball and not be Software Engineers, heheh.

It's all good tho. Just thinking about a world where these things proliferate like Backglasses do. You just find the one you want and get the enhancements and can change them easily to something else if it suits your fancy. This is a much better "User Experience" I feel.

Hope I'm not coming across as annoyed. I re-read my post and I'm sure that some may take it that way.

I agree with you with what the default mode should have been. This is what "PoP-up enabled" is. :)  That is exactly why I used the SetScreeneX command to force Pop-UP (only for Tron), so it would be the "default" for Tron, regardless of the user not being a software engineer and possibly configuring PuP wrong. :)  It's not about me forcing my vision on someone...its about making sure they have it running "correctly" in the first place, as it was intended for this table. If they don't want it this way, then its easy to change a single option in the script. This is the ONLY way to do this with a PuP table "mod" without changing PuP's default settings.

This hobby is not a "simple" install it and enjoy experience. I wish it was...but if you want to play with the really neat toys....I believe you must, on a basic level, understand how it works, and how to install, setup and configure it for your "specific" setup. NailBuster did an amazing job adding in so many options for everyone to use (with me pestering him to add some of those options). Learning how to use them is the least we can do.

This is exactly how PuP works already! Both the script options for a table "mod", and a PuPB2S are easy to change. It's just completely new, so it takes time for everyone to learn how that's all.

A normal B2S needs to be changed for each person's backglass setup on a per-table basis. Grill, DMD, fantasy, size, etc are options that need to be set for each table by everyone.  I see no reason to think PuP would be any different.
