I have also been running this successfully with UAC on the lowest setting.  Also don't run as admin.   @boslaw - Are you sure this is no clash with the buttons that you configured in VPX?

Yes, definitely not a clash with button assignments. I’m not using joystick for anything else.

Ok, here's what I see in the various pinvol files and windows. Note, everything appears correct except Pinvol Settings, which labels my joystick buttons as 

localVolUp = Joystick{0bace240-03ba-11e8-8002-444553540000}1

localVolDown = Joystick{0bace240-03ba-11e8-8002-444553540000}0

 

I have tried deleting the settings file a few times to let it be recreated but the same thing keeps happening. 

 

I also turned off "admin mode" for each of my programs with no effect

You say "everything appears correct except PinVol Settings" - so am I reading that correctly to mean "PinVol Settings are not correct"?  If so, how are those incorrect?  That's actually the correct form, if you're using joystick buttons.  Are you maybe thinking "I'm really using buttons 2 and 1, not 1 and 0?"  If so, the settings are actually correct again, since we have the usual programming thing going on where the real numbering Windows uses internally starts at button #0.

Yes, that's what I was referring to. The joystick 1 and 0. If that's correct, then I am stumped. 

 

When I open PinballX, the pinvol overlay shows up as I press the joystick buttons. The labels change between table volume and system volume (no rhyme or reason as to why it changes). When I launch a table into VPX, pinvol goes away and won't come back.

 

When I close pinball x and just launch VPX 10.6, no pinvol appears when I press the joystick buttons.

In VP, under the video options, do you have "Disable desktop composition" selected?  Or are you running in "exclusive" full-screen mode?  Those sorts of options would prevent any other programs from sharing the display, so PinVol wouldn't be able to display its overlay screen.

Disable desktop composition was turned on. I will try turning that off next.

On my Zeb’s plunger PinVol will only recognize joystick button 1. Joystick button 2 is not recognized. I would love to get joystick button 2 to work. Talked with Zeb, he didn’t have an answer.

I'm using Zebs as well. Both joystick buttons were working for me before I upgraded to vpX 10.6. Maybe it's an issue with zebs

I have never had joystick button 2 to work on any version of vpx unfortunately.

I use Pinvol on quite a regular basis on both of my cabs, but turns out I was never able to use it as intended: the Global volume buttons seldom work in Popper or VPX (whereas the Table buttons do work just fine, and Pinvol remembers the volume per table).

 

I use a KL25Z, and I have assigned the flipper/magnasave buttons in their shifted configuration to respectively Table Volume and Global Volume. Table volume is simply +/- volume buttons, Global volume is assigned to F19 and F20 (and KL25Z is programmed accordingly)

 

If I am on the desktop, then everything works fine, and Pinvol does recognize the Global volume input and change it accordingly

Under Popper or VP however, things are rather random. Table volume Always  work, but Global volume seldom works. I could not track where the issue is coming from yet, so any pointer would be welcome.

 

So right now I use Pinvol primarily for Table volume control...

My first guess would be the standard Admin Mode hassle, but nothing should work if that's the problem, and you said that the Table Vol keys are still working. 

 

But just in case, check to see if you're running any of the other programs in Admin Mode.  If so, that's probably the problem.  See "Should I use 'Run as Administrator' for everything?" in Software Setup in my build guide for more.

Popper is in admin (this is required apparently for proper operation of Popper to be able to close/open emulators)

VPX and FP are run in standard mode

 

Note that my keys assignements are: standard volume up/down keys for Table volume, F19/F20 for Global volume.

 

On FP, I don't have any PinVol overlay, but I presume this is linked to "Force Full screen" mode of operation, I'll try by disabling, but first need to figure out why the "Global volume" is not working outside of the desktop

With windows 10 there is no need to run anything as admin

I agree there should not be any need.

 

However I merely followed the information available here for Popper:

Specifically this line:

I'll disable admin mode for Popper and see if this affects overall behaviour

It does, so this was indeed an admin issue

 

I suspect the reason Table volume was working is because it was assigned to the standard +/- keys, which are probably monitored directly through the OS. As it turns out, I connected an external volume control device through USB, and changing volume with this device results into "Table volume" being displayed and changed accordingly.

 

I have Popper running in non admin now, and it seems to work. I'm not sure why Nailbuster has this admin requirement in his FAQ/Troubleshooting guide.
