There is open source software out there at the moment that will let you record pinmame dot frames and then you can colour them your self. It is no where near as good as what colorDMD can do. What they do is actually quite complicated as they can colour dynamic frames. This open source software at the moment far as I am aware can only colour full frame animation. So no scoring or any custom dynamic screens just plain simple full screen animation. (don't quote me on that I might be wrong)

I can make the pinDMD3 .dll compatible with the pallet files this software creates. If you want to use it you can. I cant see I can get into any legal trouble over this? I am not selling any coloured roms/files or even the .dll that uses the data. I just sell the hardware and firmware.

Let me know if this is something you would be interested in.

I think you just want to profit from the opensource project! That "other" project is far away from what a commercial product can do... How you interpret that is up to you ;)

Don't understand me wrong, your product is great, but I prefer the open source and DIY way.

What I dislike most is that people get banned for stating their position and referring to the other site which is also banned here...

Nevertheless, wish you all the best :D

That's your opinion and there's nothing wrong with that!

I prefer to make a high quality custom 100% plug and play no bugs/faults product. Using custom hardware. Not just a bolt on dev board. Sadly this all costs money.

Reason the other author was banned is because his original product (which lead into the current product) was just a rip off of my pinDMD2 the firmware was plain out right stolen (I don't care what excuses they come up with how it was not stolen) but when you take some ones firmware and install it on your own device and sell it THAT'S STEALING.

Even now the other product is mostly based off my pinDMD2 work using all my integration code with pinMame/FuturePinball/etc..

Every one does things differently (unless you copy......) I prefer to go down the you buy the completed product plug it in and it just works no hassle, no trouble shooting, no ordering other parts. Just pure plug and play. But that's me.

Hey Russ,

You said on the other board that you'll be in touch with Farsight, Pro Pinball and Zen about PinDMD3? Is that still the case? That would be awesome!

I see no problem using the palette files. The people will want it and they'll be great once more people start using it. As someone using "the other author"'s setup, the more people that use the palettes, the better for us all. If it works out the way it should, I could see authors releasing a custom DMD palette when they release a table...think of the possibilities. Obviously it's not ColorDMD but it's a damn nice subsitute

As long as I cant get in trouble for these files I don't mind. I can quite easily make my pinDMD.dll read in the pallet files, which again I'm not doing any thing illegal by doing this.

No you are not. Making it reading pallets files isn't any infringement of any kind.

Keep going strong Russ and salutations! .... still waiting for the pindmd custom config tool for my cherry dmd lol (what is it now, 3 year?) :P

revision 2, (pinDMD2). My Cherry DMD need a little more "power"... the sliders need to go to more extreme both sides. For example if minimum slider for brightness is -10 and max is 10, they need to go -20 and 20. Just doble both sliders 10 points in each direction.

Brightness and Something else that I don't remember... you know, those 2 sliders that you can play with to adjust setting in the DMD,

Ah yes was the display to dim? I think those sliders where at there limit for the timings they adjusted. Pretty sure the fimware was at max brightness when slide to right.

Was this the issue display to dim?

Pindmd3 will be full custom pallet(per frame) coulorizable in the near future!

Russ,

What did you have in mind for this implementation?  I was assuming you intended that "open source editor," but if you have a better concept, that would be great.  Particularly since that software only reads and won't modify WPC BMD data.  I'm not sure whether that limitation includes colorization. I do think that Fren makes a valid point about building up a the largest possible audience for pallet files and I had not considered builders packaging custom pallets with their table uploads.  That would be truly awesome.  I would add the compatibility even if it ends up being inferior to whatever you develop.  It will only add to the appeal of your product.

I think it was something about not filling all the lines. The top and bottom IIRC, you told me that it just needed a little more brightness or something else. That you will adjust a custom configtool just for the Cherry DMD. I think those DMD's needed a little more juice.

I think I still have them in one of the PCs, will dig it up and post it here ok. Thanks.

The cherry dmd is like any other normal plasma dmd (size wise), like a vishay, etc. It fit my WPC dmd panel like a glove.

excuse me, it is a wpc95 speaker panel

So ... 128x32? ... the not SEGA dmd.

No sorry we was a bit late getting boards into production.

Assembler is quoting 16th of jan they will be delivered to the states. They then need to be shipped to me (UK) and tested/packaged/shipped by me for EU orderes.

States orders might be bit quicker.
