OK, I'll have to go on record here and say that I'm really, really annoyed by how this "release" was handled.

First I'm not let in on the private testing thread with some wishy-washy reason like it not supporting more than 5 users. Like it wouldn't be a matter of two minutes to shoot Noah a PM to increase that limit.

Then out of the blue this "beta" version is released, with no prior notice to me, before the agreed date of February, and without so much as waiting for an "ok" from me. Now I'm stuck in the middle of several WIP changes, with several breaking changes still on my to-do list which I can now forget about since now people will already start releasing VPX tables.

Sorry, but that's not what I consider being part of a dev "team".

Well I understand how you might feel and I'm sure communications could have been better to include you but as stated this is a beta test thread and people know its not to release final versions of tables.. We expect a lot of updates and maybe even table breaking changes in the future.

Your breaking changes are always a net gain.

Sometimes with communication issues, most are based on misunderstandings.  Let's not assume anything and see where this goes.

While I'm surprised you didn't get communication! It is "beta"

I actually thought you were joking when you talked about the secret alpha party in the other thread. Oh boy.

Yes, better communication is a given but this may have been intended as a "pre-beta" for a lack of better words.

Actually to be perfectly honest, I would have though all along the next phase would not have been a mass release but an invitation to go from what appears to be 3 authors to maybe a dozen or so of the most busy ones to get the initial "big" potential bugs out, then a mass release to all. This would also have helped to have a few tables released so that people have something to play with.

I ain't no programmer though so what do I know :)  Anyway, that's not a complaint, it's cool that people can at least play with it, just surprised it was an "en masse" release.  It's all good here.

i agree with zany, it feels like this release is premature and somewhat disappointing, for lack of a better word.

ball spinning when motionless suggests there are some physics issues and no release of a full screen table suggests all development was centred around desktop versions.

i also had the feeling mukuste was being alienated somewhat, even prior to his posts.

Regardless, lets take some teachings from this and move forward as a unified community, this early release can serve as an educational release for table and code developers and testers alike.

If I can make a suggestions for the affected parties, take it to PM conversation option please.  I'd love to read the potential drama but that usually doesn't help lead to resolutions but rather the reverse.  "resolution" should be the only option/result here.

If i recall wasnt there weekly beta builds when vp9 was still being developed?

What exactly do you think this is. Its a beta build thread just like the one for vp9.

Its not a release. This isnt vp 10.0. Its vp 10 beta.

Im confused where the issue is.

As far as the software being developed for desktop users that is the most rediculous thing ive ever heard of. But reguardless, as user and steveoz will tell you the largest user base in the community are desktop users.

And as far as i know fuzzel and toxie have been sending pms with no responce.

Anyways back to the drama

"it will all be ok in the end, if it's not ok, it's not the end"

You cant make everyone happy UW. Why does the pinball community always have to complain?

I'm 100% with Loaf on this one, guys. Let's leave the release timing discussion to the devs. It's an issue between them, and I know they'll work it out. We are all adults here, after all.

By posting your 'opinion', you may be fueling ill feelings, and that's not something we want between any of our members. We're all friends here.

Definitely not an exclusive to the pinball community.

From my understanding and the vibe I got was that this was opened up as it is only in this WIP / Beta form (and arguably a good term by Loafer with"pre-beta") being exactly for the purpose of getting others involved especially you Mukuste.  I got the impression that things were to be wrapped up with the constrained, long, and limiting PMs for the alpha stuff, that had started a while ago, so that things could proceed better, with more eyes on things, and in the most easiest way to get everyone on board being that through a forum post / beta thread.

I don't know what PMs transpired between you devs, but I believe that Toxie and fuzzel chose this exact step / getting this early beta going this way in the spirit of inclusion and not exclusion.

This thread should just be closed to discussions and the bug reporting be reported in the bug section that was set up.

Too much drama for such an exiting day for the future of VP!

Maybe on the main portal page just have a blurb and the beta downloads etc from the 1st post in this thread by fuzzel.

VP10 is a free software release and is being created by a team of dedicated volunteers. The VP community should be thankful for all of their hard work.

The product is great so far and will only get better over time.

The Night->Day slider is very cool.  How does it work?  Does it darken everything, including insert lights and flasher lights?

One good thing I had just found whilst converting a table back was you used to get an error when loading a P-roc game, which you could ignore by pushing enter. I had a script to load a table that would do that for me but that's gone now. Happy xmas!

Another thing you couldn't play the table if you exited back to the editor, you needed a restart, that's also fixed.

Thanks Dev's on the Release. Its Glorious and made my day alot better.

VP10 install script errors -  you need to unzip the included vbs.zip file and replace your existing vbs files  which are either in C:\Visual Pinball\Tables or C:\Visual Pinball\Scripts

And thanks gtxjoe -  I have forever wanted to move all my files so that it was just table files in the table folder. Never noticed the Scripts folder till you typed it.
